MENSA is good for CV and that's about it sadly. Myself and the other half long since stopped the subs, as the "humour" SIG went from being very funny to, shall we say, sad at best. It was almost self parody, but the contributors were taking themselves waaaay too seriously.

High IQ doesn't equate to geekiness, nor does is stop typos (farther)

This board would become very boring without Stromba to keep us entertained and encourage discussion.

Back on topic, my thoughts on messing about with Camber and toe are quite simple: You're not playing GT4, you're driving a car in the real world. Unless you have a background in motorsports, it's a good bet the guys in Dieppe know what they're doing better than you do. Don't fiddle unless you really know what you're up to. Feel free to try tweaking tyre pressure (within reason) and keep the rest of the suspension as it is out of the box.

Its a well know fact that the faster you think, the worse your handwriting anf typing.

My handwriting is almost illegible, hence i have no need to spell words correctly, as no one can read them anyway.

Agree on the settings, WTF does the local wheel alignment place know about setting up a track car. Leave it alone.

Am really enjoying the 'I'm more intelligent than you' conversation here, I didn't realise genius was a requirement for a chat forum. :-k

I also think some form of Knowledge/intelligence is required during vehicle design, development and manufacture, therfore i agree with the leave it alone camp, but what do I know? maybe my IQ's not high enough.......... :?

Aww, come on stromba, that old chestnut?

As a newbie to the forum and one of the few female frophy owners I thought there would have been a little more enthusiasm for a new member............

Bit of an update on the camber issue. Just got off the phone with Aurok, who have checked the suspension geometry, and they have measured the same mismatch in camber on the fronts as the tyre place.

They believe there is a bit of movement to be had from the std bolts, so they are going to see if they can get a good match with the std bolts, and if they can't, they are going to use some camber bolts from the Clio Cup series to dial in -1.75 degrees of camber.

The rears incidentally match, but came from the factory set up at -1.70 degrees.

Can't wait to pick the Trophy up later on today and go for a blast to see if there is any noticable difference! :D

Not really. Maybe if you owned a Williams.

Nothing. In the end the engineer at Aurok was able to use the std camber bolts to set the car up with -2.00 degrees at the front, the rears were left alone at -1.70 degrees.

Not the greatest conditions this afternoon to be pushing to hard, but the change has certainly improved the drive of my Trophy. Whilst it feels keener to follow cambers on the road, the front end feels more planted and easier to place when cornering speeds are increased.

You can definately see the difference in camber with the naked eye, I have taken a couple of photos, but it was quite hard to try and find the right angle to show the camber.

All in all, a very successful day! :D

£110 for three hours labour. The geometry was analysed, adjusted and re-checked. I don't think it was such a bad price to have my suspension geometry set up by a specialist.

Just happy at the end of the day to now have it sorted, I was worried that the way the camber was set up would not be good on the trackday this Saturday, and I didn't want to have to leave half way through the day because of tyre wear problems.

Aurok have loads of experience with Clio's, they have run four seperate cars for the Clio Cup in the past, as well as doing trackday prep work for road going Clio's.

OliS. Glad you are pleased with you initial impressions - look forward hearing to when you have had a chance to try it under more suitable conditions. You may want to reduce the toe-out if it wanders too much. Hope to do mine this weekend, - as previously suggested I will aim for 2.00, domestic chores permitting.

The reason for using the Challenge camber bolts is, if i recall correctly, that the Challenge manual only permits approved bolts and rear shims. This is quite common in fixed spec formulae.

George - thanks for your advice on this subject, the information you posted in this thread was very helpful and gave me a clear understanding of the problem that I was having and the viable solutions. :D

Hope you manage to find the time to do yours this weekend!

May I venture to suggest Day is thinking of the later. (Only based on the premise he knows what a Trophy looks like.) Maybe a tad cheeky, but more funny..

Day please correct me as required :)

Olis, thank you for your kind comments. In fact there is always more to learn as different offsets and even tyre characteristics require different settings to optimise the car - the great thing is that it is possible to dial out the inevitable compromises of a relatively cheap production car and see the benefits. I sprinted and hill-climbed my wife's virtually un-modified MX5 last year, and as standard they come with easily adjustable camber and toe front and rear. Researching several sites, mainly in the US, I obtained some base-line recommendations and also advice as to how to vary them for different requirements - there was no doubt that it all worked and I was able to monitor the progress over a season. (It is really good at these events as you tend to get split times and so can get some feedback as to where there is most to gain - even within my relatively limited ability).
