Hi guys just got back from Germany and tackling the famous Nurbiurgring.

What a place!! Absolute mecca for cars and enthusiasts. Saw some pretty fantastic looking cars and also some sheds! However, the sheds where quicker!!

Trophy forum we must organise a trip as one of the fastest cars there on Sat was Dave87 in his Trophy, I was a passenger in an Audi RS4 and he went flying past us.

Anyway enjoy and if you want more pics give me a shout.

Hi mate - yeah he even let me do a lap in it which was pretty funny!!

I kept on wanting to keep it in a low gear and use revs where as he was telling (shouting) at me to use the torque!

We paid 800 for this trip but I am very confidant it can be done for £400 as the pound is so strong against euro.

TT was brilliant in wet and I even managed to get the back end out!!

Was absolutely p***ing down when I did lap and a couple of hairy moments shall I say!!

Especially when an R8, Viper, RS4 and RS6 came charging behind me!!

Here is some more pics.

Thought it would be clever to try and "keep up" with one of those M3's the other day, to say he wee'd all over me would be something of an understatement.

Nah, arranged it all ourselves, it's real easy and you are on your own timescale when you are out there which suits me more.

Trophy meet would be great, but I imagine it would be a nightmare to organise! I try to post the dates I am going as soon as I know them so that there is the possibility of others making the same dates if they are up for it. I think there are a couple of Trophy's going over when I am, so it will be nice to put faces to the names! :)

I kid you not the RS4 was being driven very very hard.

Overall the key to the ring is decent, nimble quick car + circuit knowledge + good driver.

Can wait till 176 makes the journey. The amount of corners and short straights fit the trophy perfectly.

I'm sorry, but you're completely delusional if you think the Trophy is quicker than a RS4 that is being driven very, very hard round the 'ring because it is not nimble.

A nimble car is one thing, but there are more than enough straights to destroy a Trophy. Further, I doubt the RS4 would be slower through the corners, especially in the wet and with 4WD. I've driven the circuit in the wet too and I know how much I had wished for 4WD. Not to mention the straights with more HP.

The Trophy is quick round the tight corners - but lets not get carried away. Credit where credit is due: The RS4 is not only quicker, but will be by a significant margin compared to the Trophy. It's where they developed the car after all.

Don't for a minute think the Trophy is even close to the time a RS4 would post round the 'ring, especially in the wet.

Cheers

oh you done the nurburgring and spa 700 mile trip wasn't it???

i stumbled across the website for it not too long ago and saw a carrera gt at the top of the list, there was a trophy on it too....Dave87 i presume?.

great set of pics, I was going to do nurburgring or spa this year but decided to spec the car up first. Now i have decided not to touch the trophy suspension as apparently lowering springs reduce damper life, so it is fully modded so i'll be doing both spa and nurburgring next year.

So cannot wait to tackle both of them!

Yeah it was nurburgring 700 - good crack with the people who went but that circuit days were very poorly organised and failed to distribute info to participants. On the Sunday night there was a BBQ but they did not tell us what hotel or when!! We had to ask the owner of the hotel for info.

For the cost I would not do again but the banter/crack with participants was excellent.

If people are interested doing a Trophy trip I d give it a go organising, With me being a teacher I ve organised trips to London before and think (fingers crossed) I could do a good job.

It was David 87 in the Trophy. He is a cracking driver.

In regard to ollies opinion - opinions are of course opinions! I was there witnessed it first hand and thats all I need to say.

I can't believe you're still pushing the RS4 is not as quick as a Trophy point!

Perhaps I can shed some facts (I always do my research before posting my opinions – they’re not blue sky thoughts): The current RS4 (V8) does a lap of the 'ring in around 8 minutes (+/- 20 seconds depending on site, but never more than 8:35).

Are you saying that you think the Trophy can do a lap of the 'ring in less time, especially in the wet (where the RS4 has 4wd)?

I'm sorry to push this point. I just don't want anyone from a RS4 forum coming onto this site and reading that Trophy drivers think their cars are faster than a RS4... it's embarrassing! We're not kids so lets say things that are a little bit more realistic to show we're not arrogant owners who think we have the quickest car in the world.

Also as reference points, the accepted lap times for other cars are (from Wikipedia – most times set officially by Sport Auto – the German car magazine):

- 8:09 - Ferrari 360 Modena
- 8:09 - BMW M6 E63 (sport tyres) [limited to 259 km/h] (sport auto 12/05)
- 8:09 - Honda NSX-R, 320 PS/1467 kg, sport tires, suspension modification (sport auto 08/02)
- 8:10 - Chrysler Viper GTS (Sport Auto 10/97)
- 8:11 - Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX GSR prototype, 280 PS/40.8 kgf•m/1420 kg, Takayuki Kinoshita (Best Motoring International video "Carrera Invasion")
- 8:12 - Porsche 993 Turbo (430 hp version)
- 8:13 - BMW M5 E60, 507 PS (sport auto 12/04)
- 8:13 - Ferrari 355 GTB (Sport Auto 10/1994)
- 8:15 - BMW Z8 E52, 400 hp
- 8:17 - Porsche 996 C2
- 8:22 - Nissan Skyline GT-R R32, 280 PS/36 kgf•m/1430 kg, Motoharu Kurosawa (Best Motoring - Video Special DVD Series [The R32 GT-R])
- 8:22 - BMW M3 E46, 343 PS/1584 kg (sport auto 12/00)
- 8:22 - BMW M Coupe E36/7, 321 PS/1445 kg (sport auto 10/98)
- 8:22 - Mercedes CLK 63 AMG (fastest AMG test engineer)
- 8:24 - Subaru Impreza WRX STI, sport tires (Sport Auto 05/04)
- 8:25 - Jaguar XKR (Sport Auto)
- 8:25 - Porsche Cayman S (Sport Auto)
- 8:25 - Audi RS4 375 hp (mark 1, with less HP than the current V8 model)
- 8:24 - Mitsubishi Charisma GT Evo VI, sport tires (Sport Auto 11/99)
- 8:25 - Mitsubishi Charisma GT Evo VII, sport tires (Sport Auto 11/02)
- 8:26 - BMW 335i E92 Coupe, 300 hp (Sport Auto)
- 8:26 - Nissan 350Z (Sport Auto 10/03)
- 8:28 - Porsche 911 Carrera (993) (Sport Auto 07/97)
- 8:28 - BMW M5 E39 (previous model), 400 hp
- 8:32 - Porsche Boxster S (Sport Auto 12/99)

The Trophy is a great car, but it certainly isn’t quicker than any of the cars above, and certainly not a current RS4. Not by a long way. My lap time at the ring was circa 9:20, and that was driving very, very hard (track damp in places). Yozza has timed himself at around 9 minutes dead (from memory) in his track prepared Clio, which is definitely much faster than a Trophy on the track.

Please, lets not say that a RS4 being driven hard around the ‘ring would see a Trophy flying past it unless the RS4 was not being driven quick at all. If it was being driven hard it would be far faster than the Trophy, even with an average driver.

Cheers

Brilliant facts!

We are talking about real world drivers and what an owner can do with its stead.

And being a real world owner and getting the most out of your car can be difficult! I am sure Alonso would be quicker in the RS4 I went in on Saturday. However, my pal driving the RS4 going at considerable speed could not keep up with David87 in his Trophy.

As I pointed out previously to do the ring you need balanced car, knowledge and skill. The Trophy had that on Saturday and showed up a lot of drivers in faster cars.

I am no way saying the Trophy is an RS4 I am saying in real world terms it showed up a couple of people with more expensive and faster cars. I am in no way saying it is king of the ring!!!

P.S. I am in Max Power in October giving my opinions!!!!

having epxerienced much faster cars on track being left for dead by slower cars because their drivers have different skill level I see both side of this... the same driver in both cars would mean the RS4 would kill a Trophy.

But my Grandad driving the RS4 i'd think I kill it in a Deisel Astra Van (top gear challenge, anyone?)

It's more than likely that the driver in the RS4 was driving hard and still getting toasted by the Trophy, if said driver was taking the wrong lines and getting out of shape.

Swings and round-a-bouts lads. The RS4 is a bloody quick car, I've done track days and out gunned AMG Mercs before though. Skill of the driver will always count more to lap times than power of the car.
