Main dealers should get reported for that kind of behaviour and incorrect diagnosis. Total ******'s. Name and shame the dealer at least.

right since my last post i have visited firstly a renault stealership then my local renault specialist, the renault dealership said that a clip which is fixed to the fuel tank which holds the brake cable had broken and that i needed a new clip and a new fuel tank even though they said they could order me the clip separatly they said i needed a new fuel tank which they quoted at £230 :^o and i just laughed, got home took it to the specialist soon as it went up on the ramp we both saw it was just a tiny clip that had broken and was an easy fix, the renault stealers said that the creaking noise was the cable hitting the underside of the car which i wasnt sure about but since having the cable firmly back in its place ive had no creaks or anything for the past week so far anyway and renault just pissed me off trying to say i needed a new fuel tank when theres nothing wrong with mine i was in a mood where i wanted to report them to trading standards, oh and it took renault a full 1 hour and 30 mins to find this problem where as it took me 2 and a half mins to spot it plus another 30 seconds to secure the cable back in place :|

Excellent result DfV, glad that you've got it sorted! I've still not got the grease off my mate, so mine is still creaking like a good'un, but I reckon I'll have a look tonight to see if the same clip has failed on mine. Have you got anymore detail on where the clip is located, and how you secured the cable back in place?

Cheers!

i'll take a pic for you and have it up tomorrow at the latest, i used 2 cable ties 1 to secure around the existing part of the clip thats left and the other to secure to the 1st tie its holding firmly in place and cable ties are going to be more resistant than getting a new plastic clip which could break again.

Bit of an update. Although I have not actually done anything to cure the creaking other than removing my spare wheel from inside the boot...the creaking has ceased!?!? It still occurs, but only when the chassis is really flexing (low speed cornering on inclines) and the sound is much less audible than before...day to day driving which used to be blighted by this cursed noise is now creak free!

I've got a week off work coming up in a fortnight, so I'll have some time to test the bump stops, grease up the boot latch striker and check that the brake cables are properly secure, but for the time being it's looking like the problem is going to go away by itself...strange but true!

i get this on track, but not on the road - tight left handers usually. I'd think it's either the bump stops, the tyres rubbing or more likely just the sound of weight being transferred around the chassis.

**Update**

my creaking noise is now completly cured! after visit to A.C Williams in Ancaster another local dealership for me, they noticed that a knackered ball joint was the problem they had 1 in stock and had it fitted in 1 and a half hours under warranty and my trophy was back on the road making no noises what so ever! the guy working on my car there has a 182 cup which is also nice to know, someone that knows what theyre doing on renaultsports as no other dealerships seem to know they have an rs range, big thanks to A.C Williams Ancaster for providing an excellent service! 8)

Thanks for the update DfV...my Trophy is going into Renault over the next week or so for some other stuff to be looked at so I'll ask them to have a look at the ball joints at the same time. Since my last post, the noise has now gone completely, so I may never find out what the noise was with mine!

good luck with that, i had no idea it was my ball joint as the creaking started of from a very small creaking noise but i booked it in and by the time it had to go in it had got really loud so its obvious it wasnt just chassis flex or anything as such let us know how you get on

Alright, I had my Trophy checked over by a Renault dealership today and they could not find anything that would cause the creaking. As I'd previosuly posted, the creaking has all but gone now, so I was not holding out much hope of the technicians being able to replicate or identify the noise. So for now, I'm closing the case on my creaking Trophy...

OliS,

Which dealer did you go to? Need to get a couple of potential warranty issues checked and would be interested if you found a good Renault dealership in Surrey you are happy with.

I went to SMC Guildford. Despite a friend having a bad experience with them, I found the service was top notch and I won't have a problem going back there. They gave the car a thorough checking over, advised on any issues, and let me make my own decision as to what work was to be carried out and when. My Trophy will be back with them in a week or so to have the near side driveshaft replaced as it's leaking, but it's under warranty so it's not too bad.

One of the other items they advised on was the rear exhaust mounts as these have split and could do with replacing...did not put two and two together until late last night, but I guess this could have been a possible cause for the creaking from the rear, so I may bite the bullet and pay the seemingly extortionate £70 to replace them.

Excellent, many thanks for that. Will book in there myself. Sounds like you're onto something with the exhaust mounts. Mine doesn't creak, but the exit pipes are not level, which is one of the things I need checking, so it could be similar problem to yours. Will let you know how it goes.

Thanks again,
Nick
