Hello all, sorry it's been a while but all i've been doing is driving, I've put 2000 on the clock in 3 weeks. I had to before anyone starts, I blame tha VW add about "have you ever just gone for a night drive".
Anyway putting a new stereo in the car and was wondering if there was anything that I should be aware of ?.

As it stands at the moment

JVC KD-AVX11 Head unit with iPod and Bluetooth phone thingy
Infinity Kappas in the doors and some Kappas 6x9's on a stealth shelf
all running of an Alpine MRP-F450 amp

I know about the tweeters being a nightmare but what else should I be looking at?, where do people put there Amps, I always put mine on the back of the rear seats but there so flimsy that I'm sure they won't support the weight.
Cheers guys :D

A couple of things:

Scrap the rear 6x9s... they will be a waste of money. Instead go for a small sub. This will give you the full range (assuming your fronts will be a split system with tweeters and a crossover). You'll never hear the rears and they won't add anything to the system at all.

Also - I have a rear board that I used to mount my amps on. I had it custom made so that It fits behind the rear seats and is of course cut exactly the right size and is carpeted etc. You'll never know if was there as it utilises small brackets and can be returned to stock in about 5 minutes flat (as I did when I sold my car).

Let me know if you're interested in it. There should be some pics somewhere of my stereo install so that you can see what it looks like.

Cheers
O.

Agree with Ollie there - 6x9s a waste. Good quality small sub much better. Coincidentally - your undoing all the good work Renault Sport have done into making it a lightweight car!

Then again I was gonna upgrade my stereo but the only soundtrack I need nowadays is that Orbisound!

She's a good girl, she would remove my testicles if she ever read that though. Can I write TESTICLES!!.
I'm trying to avoid putting anything in the boot so would rather avoid the BASS box route, already got my Sparco Helmet box in there and that's all the space gone.

System.

Hi, im running in my Trophy a New Alpine IVA cd/dvd/mp3 touch screen headunit.

The 3 sets of RCA leads are going to my boot where 2 sets are connected into a DLS 4/CH amp 4x125w. This amp feeds some front Rainbow Components which cost me £400 and i have some Audiobahn Coaxils in the rear which have a rms less than the front. These were £125.
The other Rca's flow into a Audiobahn Line driver which turns the headunit's pre out's of 2v up to 15v this is then sent to a DLS A6 amp which has a 5 farad capacitor connected and is running at 1 Ohm.
The A6 when running at 1 Ohm produces around 1400watts of RMS power.
I have a competition box made by Audiobahn which cost me £150 which is ported and im running 2 x 12 inch competition Audioahn 1200V subs which have a RMS handling of 750watts each.
When i run serious bassy music the car can be heard coming up the road from an easy 200 meters away.
The clio like you no has a very small boot, due to its size when it is sealed this makes the box in my boot really sound loud.
People in my local area just stop walking when they hear me drive past, they must be in shock from the looks i get on their faces.

My Trophy with this set up has cost me about £2800 to £3000 and is really well set up but shocking to people when they take a ride in my car.

My next car soon is to be a E46 M3 which im going to be running a Cerwin Vega Stroker Pro 15 inch sub which will be fed by 2 x DLS A6's and this is not enough power for this £1200 Sub.

Its the same old story what ever you have you want more & more.

Music in my car is Great, Loads of fun but im starting to go deaf.

The following link is of a Renault Twingo.
This competition car has 4 x 12 inch stroker pro's in it see the windscreen and roof flex with the bass and the guy's hair blow around and he is standing outside the car with a small gap in the front window. Its LOUD

I’ve tried to follow the advice of people who know what they are talking about by upgrading the headunit (Alpine CDE 102 Ri) and the front speakers (Alpine SPX 13REF) first, which sounds far better than the stock unit, but I need to think about stage 2. My car audio specialist is desperate to sell me a huge sub in a even bigger box, but firstly I don’t want to add weight, or fill the pretty small boot, or sound like someone on the local ring road in a 1.2 Corsa (sorry any Corsa fans!).

Are there any options for getting a bit more bass without resulting to a sub in a box? I’m not really into dance music, but would like some more ‘thump’ for some tracks.

Has anyone tried Focal 13WS (130mm subwoofers I think) mounted in the rear wing cards? On paper these could be a good compromise, if they fit. At the moment I still have the standard stock speakers in the rear, with the fader set very much to the front, the standard rears sound awful!

Any better ideas??

To be honest i find the standard headunit and speakers pefectly fine and provide ample quality, and thats coming from multiple cars with aftermarket speakers.
Maybe ive just grown out of the whole loud music and bass thing

As much as i used to love my bass, i had 4x 15inch Ballistic subs in a mondeo, not only did it fuck the car leaving ripples over the entire thing but i went noticeable deaf in just over a week. Realised what i was doing to myself and sold it all on. But miss it though.........

Couldn't comment on the precise model of sub that you're looking at but I think a small sub is a really nice adition to a setup. I had an 8" blaupunkt sub in my previous car and it was perfect for taking some of the bass out of the other speakers and getting a nice deep punchy sound from the sub instead. Being small, it was far less distinguishable from outside the car and didn't create the panel vibration that you would get with a larger diameter cone. For the record, I listen to Rock/Indy etc - not a dance fan - brings out fab bass lines for stuff like Red Hot Chillies or Fun Lovin' Criminals.
