Good call Steve! I'm too immature for something with 4 doors, if I wasn't how could you go wrong with a '99/'00 or so M5 at the prices they're at now :)

On an unrelated note, I've just paid the last instalment on the Trophy, so now I can start looking around

Not unrelated, I'm about to pay off the Trophy loan with a mortgage and have been looking at DC5's. Trouble is even though they'll tell you different on the website www.itr-dc5.com , I don't think it's appreciably quicker than the Trophy (EVO have it as as half a second slower to 60 and only half a second quicker to 100!)and although a bit better built and a coupe I don't think it's as desirable or will prove as much fun. I don't really want or need to replace the Trophy but I think I made the mistake of buying a belter a bit too soon, It's only my second car and I want to try out loads more cars yet, I would like to own a Williams and a VR6 as well as a Teggy before moving on to RWD, but they all seem like a backwards step now.

Somebody help me out through this troublesome time that you've all already been through, shall I stick with the Trophy or try a DC5? If I'm going to change it , it should probably be something quite different, with a V8 preferably, trouble is what can match the Trophy in performance and thrills while still being as practical/frugal/safe handling and cheap to run?

No, haven't been on the meths again.

Keep the effing Trophy!
I doubt you'd find a front driver that offers a better fun yet functional package!
While I can't roll with Ollie's West London, big corp consultant lifestyle and that 911 at the end of the rainbow  I can concur with his RR/FR point of view which is why I'm liking the 350z.
So until you really want that M5, please keep what is a great car! You're lucky enough to be in a country where they were sold, where here my only similar option is the Cooper S :?

Yep, know what you mean about owning a classic too soon, but you know you'll regret letting it go. :)

Been thinking about it some more, would really love a Teggy but can't decide what colour I want (one of the reasons I loved the Trophy - decision made) and I went for a drive in the Trophy earlier and decided that I really should get something slower as my next car, it's really quite ridiculous how far you have to step into license losing territory to attack a good road anywhere near it's ability limit (where the real fun starts). A Teg is undoubtedly faster (despite what EVO stats tell you), probably the fastest point to point FWD car out there but, and it's a big but...

...get an insurance quote first. All I can say is, fuck that, I can get insured on an RB5 for that which would make mincemeat out of an Integra on any road and is arguably a better driver's car. and that spoiler is a joke, my girlfriend liked the look of Steve's blue one until she saw the shot from the back and said "Oh no, it looks like a cheap Japanese boy racer car" That said it all really.

298 is here to stay, for a little while longer at least.[/i]

Anyone just watched WRC on ITV4? Those cars look so good in tarmac spec. Have had this thought before........ Buy a early mk2 Imprezza WRX, strip it and spec it to your personal preferance. My old man had three Escort Cosworths in succession, last one had Graham Goode stage 2, I was on the insurance at 21, the acceleration was astounding in any gear. Very addictive.
