Guys how much are trophys going for? I've got 443 and thinking of selling it but not to sure what I'd get for it. It's got 51000 miles on the clock and in pretty good condition. Any help will be appreciated.

For that much I'm tempted to keep the T, enjoy it and not worry about the miles I'm putting on it.

Presumably most traders will open up their little black book which will not (sufficiently anyway) take account of a car's desirability, rarety etc.
Have you tried Steve at allvehicles or DS Cars in Staffordshire? Both are Renaulsport specialists and will understand the market better.
Based on their retail prices, I would have thought both would offer you at least a grand more than that if it is a straight clean car with that mileage. However, you're clearly not going to get retail prices from traders.

Like Is1 says you'll never get a great price at a garage! And they certainly don't go on desirability etc... When I went in they thought it was a cup! Then I said 'I never knew cup was slept T R O P H Y! Like on the side skirts' lol! I bought my T 2 years ago from DS Cars in Lichfield, the guy specialises in Renault Sports, give him a go, I'm sure you would get a better price off him as he knows he'd sell it in a matter of days!

If you are trading for another renault lookers chester offered me £1000 more than anywhere else.

IMO this forum over estimates the Trophy's value, people ask more for private sales that dealers ask and dealers will offer at least £2k less than the put em up for.

But try private, you may get lucky, I got £1200 more than my px value which was £2200 more than anyother dealer.

And the dealer did say he was happy I had sold it cos at what he offered could have easily ended him up in the red as the last Trophy he bought he pretty much had to give it away as thay had it for sale for more than 100 days and for the last month or so at much less than people ask for private.

Perhaps a tad harsh. With specialist cars, it is not unusual for private sale prices to meet or exceed dealer prices. The reason is that the private seller (and a sensible buyer) will take into account the fact that there is a limited number of these cars, they can see where the car has "lived" its recent (maybe whole) life. The seller knows how the car has been driven, the fact that it has (for example) been garage parked its whole life and not taken apart every 10 minutes etc. etc.
With a trader/dealer, it could be (and often is) junk that someone has traded in for the next big thing. Other factors which are harder to estabish are how old was the last owner, did they have a nice presentable house or was it a dump and the car left on the street in all weather, is it a track day hero returned to standard? These are all things that you can at least get a feel for when speaking to a private seller at their home. What does a trader/dealer offer that a private sale doesn't (and don't say warranty!)?

The guy from DS cars is called Dan give him a ring... he should offer you a better price than any other garage as like the guys above me have said Dan is a Renault sport specialist and will understand the market better. He's a nice guy, i brought my first trophy from him in 2009. But if you want to get the most money from ya trophy the best way would to be patient and sell ya self, cause u gotta member a garage has to make there money and will make it by buying ya car at a lower cost than what they gonna sell.

They take a while to sell between £6-7000now. This one described as 'pretty good' maybe without a cam belt done would be worth a maximum of the Glass's valuation. A really clean one with cam belt and dampers done would be £5000+ trade.

As for private sellers knowing their cars, well I have had private sellers turn up with 'minters' I've gone on to spend £2000+ on.

I have many customers who have p/x'd stunning cars, but they travelled around and looked at many before buying the car.

As a dealer the first thousand margin is eroded by margin VAT £175 going on £200 next year, and a warranty which would cost £140 to cover up to a £1000 claim. Anyone who thinks buying and selling specialist cars is easy should try it, reconditioning to the standard enthusiast's demand costs a fortune.

I could go on...

Loughborough but mainly on trackdays!
I think the word 'mint' is over used in the private market & have yet to see a mint car as advertised.
Been to many shows & lots of the so called minters turn out to be buckets :D
I only ever describe as VGC etc that way the buyer is supprised at condition on arrival.
I have seen many T's even considered another a few yrs back, but as Steve C knows too well there are some shockers #-o

You'll have a job finding a 'MINT' one of those Mat! Surely cant be many un-modded one's left! Most of the one's I've seen around have had the rear arches done. A mate of mine who rallied a Williams 1 had a slight accident on a stage and ended up wrighting it off! #-o Pity such a great little car!
