Got this eMail from Evo:
Firstly, a big thank you to all of you who responded to my request last
time for information on how you use the internet when finding out about
new cars. Your replies indicated that while a small percentage of you
regularly use the interweb for this purpose, the vast majority still
want to see new cars covered in depth in the pages of evo, even if the
information might appear later than it would if we published it on the
website.
With this thought in mind, in this month's Planet evo we've taken a
closer look at the Geneva motor show, bringing you a more reflective
view of why we reckon it's the best motor show in the world. You'll
find the story behind the mad Koenigsegg Flower Power, the low-down on
why hybrids perhaps aren't the answer to reducing CO2 emissions, and a
report by Richard Porter on some of the nonsense you find at motor shows
if you look hard enough.
This was also the month when we finally got to drive the
terrific-looking Corsa VXR, so we collected together a group of the
brashest small hot hatches we could find and took them all off to one
of the best drivers' roads in the world: the Route Napoleon in the
South of France. It was quite a drive to get there but it was well
worth it, as the photos alone prove. If you ever fancy heading out to
this fabulous playground yourself, this time of year is a very good
time to go; when summer arrives the area gets clogged with tourist
buses.
We originally planned to pitch the winner of the group test against my
Renault Clio Trophy once we returned to the UK, but time restraints
(not to mention the fact that it was snowing upon our group's return)
meant that this wasn't possible in the end, so we'll try to bring you
this test at a later date.
Finally this month, Jethro has been out on track for the most
mismatched group test we've ever done, pitching the flyweight Elise S
against the portly Cayenne Turbo and Mercedes ML63 AMG. All I'll say
here is that the Lotus didn't have it all its own way. Maybe truck
racing does have a future after all...
Until next month.
Harry
