Welcome to the forum :)
Buy texasjohn's and be done with it
Big fan of VTEC/i-VTEC Hondas and RS Reno's and don't think you can go wrong with either. Just take a spin in a Trophy and see whether you get hooked or not 8)

IMHO, no NA 4 cyl engine sounds as good as the ones Honda makes.
Trophy a step up from the Cup, Reno's will rattle and the materials might not be the best, but where it counts with the engine and vehicle dynamics they're spot on. Find a good garage for servicing (whether it be Reno or specialist) and there really isn't anything major to worry about. I had a 172 FF before the Trophy and the engine mounts went on it and there were a few other problems on 172s, but by 2005 I think Reno had sorted out the big problems on the MKII Clio and it really was down to the little niggles that were left.

i have owned both and can honestly say the trophy is much more fun to drive. CTR maybe slightly quicker in straight line (only slightly) but round corners the trophy would show the civic a clean pair of heels. when i had ctr never felt confident pushing it round corners - the trophy loves them and you can push it nearly as hard as you want - the grip is astonishing.

the trophy may not have the build factor and reliability of the ctr but after owning both i can honestly say would not go back to a ctr after the trophy - most fun ever had in a car.

Welcome to the forum.

I've driven a CTR and the sound it makes is awesome but the rest of it doesn't compare to the weee Clio's. I've owned a 172 Cup and now a Trophy and I love them both to bits, each time you drive it they put a hugh grin on your face.

I recently had a look round to see what would i consider buying if i was to replace the Trophy, i drove another CTR and I just found it hard to make progress as you had to always been in the VTEC zone which i could see being a pain if your not in the mood, the Clio is happy whizzing up to 3-4K rpm without getting to the VVT kick zone. Also the way the CTR handled was not fun, i chucked it into a roundabout i love in the Clio, and the CTR just didn't want to know, under steering big time.

My Dad has a Lotus Elise 135R and he still keeps asking me for the Trophy as he loves to drive it too!

Drive one, i'm sure that'll make up your mind!

Get the Trophy, C9ONK. or even better, the Cup. Cheaper and not in that aweful colour[imo]. Stick on a set of the new tb's from At Power, and any type R will be just a tiny spec in your rearview mirror.

my brother in law has a ctr, he's always astounded at the Trophy when he's in it, having said that mines no longer standard but still they are both similar in 'catagory' but i'd say the trophy edges the ctr, the integra is a different animal though...

I've driven a CTR and IMO found that the steering wasn't that feelsome/tactile..didn't fill me with loads of confidence when bombing down a B-Road and country lanes. Tourque steer is worse than Trophy too. Trophy also feels more punchy without caining the engine unlike the CTR - I guess that could be something to do with weight.

CTR is bomb proof though - unlike the Trophy and is a more practical car

IMO Trophy is miles better :D

Just been reading through trophy faults think it has thrown me off car a bit.

Im sure this car would be a fantastic car to drive but bot sure if i could handle all the probs of running it

think i might stick with ATR for a little bit longer as no faults over past 5 years

cheers for helping.

There's little point in arguing or trying to change your mind but it would be interesting to hear what in particular has put you off. All cars have their problems and this being a single model forum those problems are going to be emphasised. but at the end of the day thats why we are on here, to swop ideas and get a helping hand IF we have problems.

It's a decision only you can make, if you're not 100% you possibly never will be, i just know that although my ownership (from new) has had a couple of downs it's mostly been a fun experience

Steve at all vehicles is a genuine enthusiast so if you were to get one from him it'll be a good un, and yes he has sold that many, several a couple of times.
Mcoupe's on here does look a great example and at £10.5 is about right for one with it's mileage.

I'm sure Steve is an admirable fellow, but will want his margin. Far better to get private as def a buyers market at moment.

As for reliability, no better/worse than others imo. My cup is on 16k and in spite of some enthusiastic driving has had not one fault.
