The only type of 172/182 that I've driven is the Trophy, and so, to those who have experienced both, can you really feel any discernable difference in the way the cars handle? I would imagine a 182 Cup would feel pretty much identical 99% of the time. That's not a criticism of the Trophy - the 182 has the fantastic reputation as being one of the best hot-hatches around, but I do doubt there's a big difference between it and other Clios. Even if it didn't have the Sachs suspension, I'd still have bought one just for the Recaro seats, colour and exclusivity. :)

I had a phase 1 172 before the Trophy, and the handling of the Trophy is much better. Higher levels of grip, less roll, better damping etc all contribute to improving what was already a very sorted car. On my favourite roads, I find I am taking some corners around 10mph quicker than I used to attack them in the 172, and the Trophy still remains well within it's limits. However, I have found on trackdays that there isn't that much difference in pace between a standard 182 Cup and me in my standard Trophy...

Can't comment on track driving because I've never driven the trophy round a circuit.
What I can say having owned a 182 cup is that on my favourite peak district poorly sufaced roads the Trophy is so much more composed than the cup ever was - these are the type of roads that the Trophy was designed for.
On a smooth surface there isn't a lot in it.

On a random drive somewhere, my brother was in my trophy for a bit and then jumped into my friends 182 with cup packs and said he noticed a huge difference between the 2. Although the 182 isn't rolly, it felt very rolly compared to the trophy, even on the road!

and that was before the damper pin removal  :D

and steve, although the trophy came 3rd to the GT and F430 in the 'surreal world', it dd actually get a higher score in 'the real world', so technically it did beat the F430 as it got a higher score in the earlier group test!. :D

think it was 93.3, only a couple of cars have ever beaten that!

Another statto, LOL, I too noticed that only a couple of cars have beaten it on score, although these are relative to the group test, hence it being beaten by the Ford and Ferrari.

This year, only the 599 beat it!
