2005 (55) Renaultsport Clio 182 Trophy.

I am the second owner of the car, which I purchased at 19,500 miles. Currently just gone past 40,000 Miles. The car has been very reliable throughout its life and has been a pleasure to own. I drive the Trophy most days and always make sure the engine has completely warmed up before taken past 3000rpm. The car is kept in a garage over night an undergoes a good cleaning/detailing process almost every week ensuring the paintwork is clean and protected from the elements.

The car has always been run on 98 Ron / Vpower / BP Ultimate.

Never Tracked.

Service History and Maintenance.

8754 miles - 4-10-06 - General service (Arnold Clark)

18,983 miles - 30-10-07 - General service (Arnold Clark)

26,433 miles - 11-9-08 - General service with the addition of Silkoline Pro S 5W-40 engine oil, new up-rated brake disks and pads fitted. (BAE Repair Garage. Private Service)
* Silkoline Pro S 5W-40 has always been used from this point onwards *

30,000 miles - 16-01-09 - BG Motorsports serviced the front Sachs Dampers. This included new seals, oil, gas and adjusters. Unfortunately I have misplaced the receipt however, a phone call to BG Motorsports can confirm what work has been carried out as they keep a record. Dampers now have full bump adjustment, which were locked in position by Renault when it left the factory.

33,838 miles - 5-6-09 - General service, Aux belt kit replaced, Braided brake lines fitted, Castrol dot 4 fluid replaced. (Receipt included) – (David Cliffe Automotive. Renault Specialist)

39,105 miles – 4 new Michelin PE2 tyres fitted.

45,838 miles - 5-6-10 – Next service due.

The bad points.

The bumper has a few stone chips, which is to be expected from a car of its age. There is also a scratch on the front bumper and a small chip on each door where it had been open carelessly (these where on the car when I bought it and are only noticeable on close inspection). Other than these the paintwork is very clean.
One of the alloy wheels has suffered from pitted brake dust which cannot be removed so all 4 wheels will undergo refurbishment before I sell the car, all the other 3 wheels are in very good condition but will be refurbished anyways.

Reliability.

As already stated the car has been very reliable throughout its life. The previous owner informed me that he experienced no problems. I have experienced only 2.

1. The coolant temperature sensor failed which was replaced under warranty.
2. The Passenger side front damper failed which is the reason why they were sent to BG Motorsport for servicing.

Yeah im after something more track orientated, there is no chance I will sell the Trophy before KTR sell their 172 though.

I dont want to go down the route of ITB's on the Trophy. £3K would be better spent elsewhere anyways.

I too think it's money badly spent, I've come to the conclusion that if you are going to pour that kind of cash into a car then you ought to be thinking about it as an almost purely track orientated thing and even then i'd be thinking of something a lot lighter than the T.
You could probably free up a few more pennies selling off some bits separately.

has the cambelt and tensioner been done?

No not yet, its due in the middle of this year. I will have been done before I sell it, if I sell it before then.

I dont have the heart to do it too the trophy either. In theory I think it would be cheaper turning the Trophy into a track orientated car than buying say a 172 cup and doing it that way. The Dampers, Seats and various other mods I have done to the car are worth good money. I just dont have the heart to do it.
I dont want to go to extremes like welding up all the seams etc just yet, I want something I can still drive to the track. I mean I guess the Trophy is pretty perfect for now but eventually ill want something even more track orientated and I dont want to run the Trophy into the ground in the mean time. Or roll it  .

Yeah your thoughts echo mine about doing it to a perfectly good T. Interesting that you think it would be cheaper to mod the T rather than a lesser car. Anyway by far the cheapest option is to buy one offthe shelf 7K for the KTR one seems a bargain if you add together all the bits.

That's why I sold mine, as much as I wanted to it's just not worth messing about with a Trophy, best sell and get something else.
Have a look at my blog though , the bill soon starts to mount up! I still think I would have been better keeping the T , track cars are hard work day in out, especially this weather as nothing more pi$$es me off than scrapping the ice of both sides of the screen!!!!

I'd say dont take any less than 7k for your Trophy, though i would imagine that the KTR 172 wont hang around at just 7k either! That things a weapon! It seems cheap seeing as they KTR are selling a Sadev gearbox for getting on 6k!

It does seem like a good buy. It does not come with the Sadev gear box mind, which is probably a good thing as ive heard they need rebuilding after only a few races. But like you say, it wont be there for long, believe me im totally gutted ! I wanted that car ever since I saw it 2 years ago at the French Car Show. Ive got a Trophy sat in the garage worth £7k and can do naff all about it.

I would hope that late on this year after the Cambelt has been done I will still get £7k for it.
