Reno dealers do them for £125. They maybe the only place you can source them.

Hi,
I am needing rear shocks and springs. One of the shocks is broken but need to do both and one of the springs has snapped. Do I need to do both springs or can just do one....
I have got the shocks down to £188 for the two normally £112 for one... which seems fine... I have made sure that they are the correct ones... here is hoping!!! Please comment
I have been onto renault and they said that the spings are £137 but ill get them for £128 therefore £256 for the two.. how come they are so expensive... ???? Please comment.
Is there anything wrong with going for after market springs or should I get renault ones.
How much am looking at for labour for this kind of job to be done.... had National tyres quote £900 then got it down to £780... Ok that was for everything.
I will be getting a quote from renault tomorrow!!!
I don't mind spending the money to keep the car standard but don't really want to be ripped off!!!

Hi.
It's recommended you replace the rear springs in pairs but no halm will be done if you dont. Have a look at the good one and see what condition it is in first, if it looks fine then you may wish to leave it.
Im not too sure why they are so expensive, my only explanation is that they are a 1 off custom spring for the Trophy, i.e not like the sportline ones you can pick up from K-Tec or other motorsport shops. + Renault know how to charge for parts !

Yea the national price was all parts and labour... but still a bit of a rip off to my mind so going to get a quote from renault to do the work or maybe get the parts and look for a independent garage to do the work. I know a few places in Glasgow I could go to...
I guess people on here would say go to renault but I have always had bad experience with them to be honest.

Renault would be the last place I would go but thats just me.
For someone who knows what they are doing I would say it would take around an hour to fit both dampers and springs so if you base your price on an hours or two labour then you can work out if your being over charged.
Ye if the other spring looks fine then you can leave it, makes no odds, although unless its covered in rust sometimes there are no signs they are about to let go. To be honest if I were replacing both the dampers and spring I would just go the full hog and do the lot mate.

Well thats a good question... i think they must be over charging parts and then slamming a holiday at the end for the machanic to be honest...
Like i said dont mind paying just dont wont to get ripped off...

And would you use renault rear discs too or upgrade using other ones????. I will be upgrading fronts when i can.

With most things on the suspension/brakes you should always replace in matched pairs.
Springs because they settle with use & time, by replacing 1 you will get uneven ride height from side to side which is not good.
Dampers because their effectivness reduces with use, so performance drops off with time therefore replacing one means you get unpredictable handling, anyone who has driven a Trophy with a single blown front knows the most extrem effect of having one damper more effective than the other.
Brakes as you want even braking, & even having odd or differently worn/aged tyres can be detremental on a cars set up.
Those labour costs are crazy, for £400 I'd drive from Silverstone to Glasgow & do it, stay at my brothers flat in Metchant City visit the olds see some mates, get drunk, go home a few days later & still have a few quid in my pocket! there must be someone cheaper who can do it

that does seem a tad high for parts and labour to fit the sachs dampers and Reno springs... I'd have thought total cost should be no more than around £600 all in.

All,
I think I have all the parts direct from Renault 2 x shocks and 2 x springs for £444 so National were going to at first charge£900 for parts and labour... Ok I understand that they would inflate the price for the parts too but £456 for labour.
Does anyone know a good place in the Glasgow area to get the parts fitted... I've been to Renault before and don't really want to go back.

If it's just to fit the items, then I'm sure he's still trading, look up Florida Motors in Battlefield near Victoria Infirmary he was/is a Renault specailist. Guy who runs it is called Eddie used to get him to do some things on my 5 GTT many years ago before I had learned to do everything myself. He also looked after my mums R19.

If so do it yourself!!
Its probably the easiest job you can do on a 182!!
Dampers are just 2 bolts, the springs just pull out, you dont need to take the wheels off and no specialist tools needed!!!
The only think I would recomend is a trolley jack cos the renault jack has been know to slip out!
Oh and £400 for labour it will take and hour tops!!! and thats for a diy mechanic

do the springs not need compressed or anything... sorry newbie to all of this as you can see... but willing to learn!!!!

If you dig deep enough every single garage will have had a customer complaint, even the recognised specailists. And some of those complaints make your hair stand on end, but not many peple ever bother writting really good experiences, well not about norml run of the mill garages.
As it's only putting on 2 dampers & springs it is a really easy job though not everyone has a driveway or even somewhere safe to work, which in the highly built up area you live which is all Victorian tenement flats not easy.
I grew up in Cathcart & Newlands so know the Southside well. Though my mum lives up in Eaglesham now.
If you've got a mate who is willing to let you use there drive then I would invest in a trolly jack and some axle stands. On the rear you do not need spring compressors as it is not a coil over at rear it's seperate spring carriers.
Get car jacked up and the on stands. Put jack under suspension on one side to take strain out of the spring pushing down on the suspension. Loosen bottom bolt. When bolt is out gently let jack down.Now do same on other side. I've watched people do one side at a time, do not make same mistake the car doesn't have independent rear suspension, IIRC its Trosen beam, which means by loosening one side the other side is still pulling it up making getting the spring out harder. Doing both sides together makes getting springs out much easier.
Remove springs, unbolt top bolts on dampers, fitting as they say is a reverse of what you have done.
If you can't do that, then try the below BUT get them to quote before work done and say that there is nothing more to be done.
If you come across as being knowledable and the fact its the space/where you live preventing you doing it yourself noramally works better.
