Quite a lot of the hills have school days - perhaos checking on Harewwod might be an idea. At Prescott and gurston they film your lines and give really good feed back.

Update.

Got the Koni's fitted today. Not given them much of a test but couldnt resist taking the T for a spin.
Overall a noticable difference over the standard Sachs units. Car feels alot more balanced, less roll and feels very stiff and very planted. Im really impressed so far, I set them half way between soft and firm. Need to give them a better test now once the geometry is setup and im removing the stm's as the roads around here are s**te and they are driving me mad, the quality of them is the main reason for removing them, im not happy with them and I will probably get Mark Fish stm's fitted in the not so distance future....anyways...

Before the Koni's were fitted I compared the compression between them and the Sachs. I found that when the koni's were on the softest setting they were pretty identical to the Sachs (compression wise). Then of course you can set the Koni's firmer. also, when you compress the Sachs units they spring back up where as the Koni's dont.

Ben G - for your information konis have a fixed compression rate and only adjust the rebound. Strange, as it feels as thouhg they adjust in both directions! If you go onto the Koni UK website and look for dealers, you will also find two or three specialists who can revalve them if you ever want something different - I have always set the rear very soft in bump and controlled it only by rebound, stops the back end jacking up (which can be a problem with the type of rear suspension that the T has).

Do you have any idea whether less or more rebound is best for the Trophy. The sachs shocks seemed to rebound pretty quickly.
When testing the compression between them both I had the Koni's set on the lowest setting which I guess is why they didnt rebound at all. The adjuster dial has firm written on it for some reason. Also, when I set them to the 'soft' setting I can bounce the rear but when I set them to the firm setting the rear end wont move at all.?

Ben, Koni yellows normally have two turns from soft to hard- anti-clock for soft and clockwise for hard. I would gradually increase the setting until the back just comes up slowly and does not overshoot normal ride height. If they are too stiff the back could become nervous and 'jittery'.

Thanks George ill have a play with them tomorrow. I will be at a Cliosport meet all day so the long drive out will be a good time to get used to them and maybe try some different settings.
Currently they are set half way between soft and hard. The car feels really good now, maybe this is due to the fact the shocks are new, maybe it is because they are better suited to the car and driving style, I dont know but im happy with them so far.

Hi mate. :)

How are the mod's... Excellent ! After the serviced dampers, rear koni's and camber setup the handling and road holding are superb. them 3 changes combined have really made a big difference to the handling. I cant wait for summer to arrive so I can set the dampers firmer, the handling is already incredible so cant wait to see how it handles when I dial them up a bit...
Overall VERY happy with the handling changes :D

The exhaust is spot on too. I cant compare the difference between cat and decat as I fitted the full system straight away. The power delivery is alot smoother and this has made the driveability alot better. Has it added power?... no idea but it certainly feels more responsive. I could really do with an IK and custom map now to finish it off. as soon as I get hold of a decent camera I will get a video of the exhaust. I love the noise it sounds awesome !!!

Next on the 'to do' list is:
Braided brake lines/dot 4.1/Pagid blue pads once the Mintex have worn out.
IK and custom map as mentioned.
3 point harnesses.

Then fill her up and drive . . . :)

Ha ha cant do anything without being spotted!

I am getting itchy feet again and was curious as to how much discount they are offering which, is a good amount off list price.
I am not 100% sure as to wether I would have one as its very track focused and I am not sure I would get enough use out of it plus the way cars have dropped in value the prospect of it being worth maybe £7-8k in 3 years time........

Its also only got 2 seats so I may aswell get an Exige...

I was thinking of adding a few mods again along the lines of MF springs and exhaust and induction mods.
Thought the original exhaust would have failed well before now as they hold that much water :lol:

Anyway cant say too much incase I change my mind on the R26.R :?:

Agreed ! It is very track focused in which case I would go for an Exige too. Maybe you should add a few mods to the Trophy like you say, you may enjoy it more. Although, if your thinking of changing cars soon you will be better off selling the T now while you can get 6-7K for it.

I had a play with the rear shocks before after reading this thread again. The Koni shocks have 2 turns of adjustment, I currently had it set half a turn from 'minimum rebound'. I increased the rebound by another half a turn and noticed when cornering pretty hard and lifting off mid corner the rear end wanted to slide out. Not to the point where the rear end did slide but it didnt feel as balanced as it did with the previous setting.

Its difficult to set it up properly on the road as I dont want to push it to hard when experimenting incase the rear end does slide out and I cant catch it ! I think ive got it set up pretty good now though, The handling is excellent ! :D

I would be interested to know the difference between the Koni Yellows and Sachs rear shocks in regards to Stiffness. They both feel pretty similar. The rebound adjustment is very useful, (thanks GeorgeK for pointing me in the right direction). I have set the rebound less than what the Sachs were and this has made the rear end feel alot more balanced and predictable. I have been lifting off mid corner and trying different settings to feel how the car reacts. More rebound causes the rear end to 'wander'. I have found a good setting which turns out to be less rebound than the Sachs shocks, although not by much.

You are doing absolutely the right thing - short of a test on a track. For a previous car I found that the best answer was to err slightly on the soft side of what I thought was right, and then the car did not produce any surprises. Similarly on the same car (Astra 16v - which ended up handling better than my Corrado VR6) the fronts were set as stiff as I could get away with - probably very close to where the Sachs are a standard.

The only real answer is to persuade someone like BG to compare them on their damper dynamometer. Bilstein use a number rating, like bump 60/rebound150 - this can be found on a dyno for any damper and used as a very handy comparison.

I have been looking in to the different settings, i.e, Slow/fast rebound and bump. It mostly depends on what the road surfaces are like as to what setup is best. I guess the best way to understand it is to understand the basic theory and then put the theory to the test, by trying different settings, on different road surfaces.

I have found a good setting so im leaving it at that. I may experiment a little when I take the trophy on track.
