Guys,

I need your help on where to get a new coil spring for my Trophy as it has collapsed.

The MOT was last week and it failed and trying to find a coil spring is like trying to find a DoDo!!

Where can I get one? A standard one will be fine just now until I look for coilovers.

Any help would be great.

Imagine Renault can obtain standard springs although some on here have spares.

Others have opted for sport line springs over stock and others have gone for Mark Fish ones.

Can I ask, why coilovers on a Trophy? Kind of defeats the whole purpose of the car. Saying that I have been for a ride in one with coilovers set up correctly and it was epic!

What am I best doing? New to the Clio 182 Trophy world as I have just come from The land of Focus RS lol

Erm not sure mate, just not sure if I like the SACHs compared to some coilovers that i have drove mate, SACHs defo arnt all they are meant to be in my opinion

If you have a broken spring it's really not going to help the dampers be "all they are meant to be" I was going to post that if a spring has gone there is also a chance that the damper has gone as well.
BTW It's your car to do what you want with but if you do put coilovers on it keep the sachs with the car so someone can put it back to oe at some point later.

I wouldn't replace a single spring if it was me as all springs will settle after a period of use, meaning one side would sit lower than the other. OK it will not be much, but it's piece of mind knowing that both sides will act the same.

As for 'coil-overs' unless spending big on something like öhlins etc you may be fitting inferior suspension. The Sachs have remote reservoirs which allows the fitment of a much thicker damper rod which doesn't flex as much meaning more constant geometry under heavy braking and under load when turning.

Then there are the springs themselves or the 'coils' which sit 'over' the damper, most if not all aftermarket coil-overs below £1500ish have fixed rate springs generally stiff not because they make the car quicker but because the marketing department demand it, this information was passed to me by a close family friend who used to be Nissan Team Europes manager and is a suspension specialist. The standard springs and indeed Eibach or Mark Fish are progressive so they get stiffer the more load that is applied. You therefore get a degree of comfort but some initial roll before loading the spring up and the rate increases.

Therefore unless fitting good coil-overs with remote reservoirs and progressive springs the car will ride poorly, actually he slower over our poorly maintained UK A & B roads as it skips & jumps all over the place, and remove the true selling point of the Trophy.

This (along with the rest of the post) is absolutely true. A well set up T will be a harsh at low speeds but as you pick it up will increasingly smooth the ride as you get going with better road holding and increased confidence.

I would NEVER fit coilovers to a trophy, The sachs suspension will prob be better than some coil over kits.

As for the coil spring you can buy them from renault or there is some people on the site that have spares that are willing to sell.

Mark Fish is a guy who makes a coil spring set for the trophy, If you give mark a call he will be able to give you a price for a full spring kit (front & rear) His number is 01279 431628 and here is his new website - http://www.markfish.co.uk/

The other spring kit that is very very common is the Eibach sportline kit that can be bought from KAM Racing or even Eurocar parts.
