When I was cleaning #488 the other day I noticed some sort of damage on the rear, offside damper but the rear nearside is fine.

The damp section is just water....I hope!

Can anyone shed some light on this? I did think that possibly with it being on the drivers side, suface water and crap could be getting thrown against it but prob nothing to do with that at all!

Should it be down to the bare metal rubbing on the sleeve? Why is the other ok then?

in first photo the sleeve does not seem to be on straight - possibly just needs re-aligning and some hammerite on the damper

I think i would freak about this too. Probably best to just grt reno to look at this and try and get it replaced under warranty cus that corrosion is not just going to stop. :(

I see what your saying George.

A trip to Ren and see what their ''professional'' opinion has to say.

yep, to Reno, post haste.

go for a new damper, that one will be problematic - the minute shards of paint and metal that have obviously come off it will not be doing the seals on the damper any good at all.

I'm still at work mate (work away). Back in Scotland on the 23rd Nov and will get it into my local stealer then.

I will post up my results. The expert panel om www.renaultsport.co.uk did not fill me with confidence!!

Yeah, the weather is to blame on a considerable amount of rust on a damper that is just over 12 months old. Come on Renault Experts, you really expect me to believe that??

Allen Collen responds
If the corrosion is on the casing I suspect the answer from the dealer will be that the local environment has caused this to happen and as such it is normal "wear and tear". If it has affected the perfomance / operation of the component then it might be dealt with differently. Regards,

Surely if it's "ware and tear" then the other damper would have the same thing happen to it? After all, it's done the saem miliage and same corners on the same roads as the other one.

I would'nt accept it, thats for sure.

Mate have the same prob with mine and suprisingly it's booked in for the 23rd as well!

Unsuprisingly Renault in Sunderland " Reg Vardy" require a full day with my car to determine if the damper needs replacing.

Throbbers!!
