I know this has probably been done to death but friend of mine has to sell his EVO5, too expensive with the arrival of another rugrat. He can't afford a Trophy so wants to get the next best, opinions please.

Personally I'd get a 172 Cup, because it is the purest driver's car out of all the RS's (Williams and Spider excluded) and can get a minter for £5K.

182 Cups are actually quite rare (539 made for the UK - less than Trophys) and will still cost about £8.5K, better to get a Cup packed 182 FF for about £7K if he wants a newer car with ABS, nice seats etc. etc.

i agree with steve - the only possible thing to be way of is the 172 doesn't have TC, so can be a bit wild when the roads are wet.

Thanks guys, that's pretty much exactly what i've said to him. I didn't realise how few 182 cups there were and that there were only two colours available. Anyway any further thoughts are welcome.

I drive the Trophy with TC turned off all the time. Dunno whether I am crackers or simply after the pure experience.

If I had a spare 7k that 172 cup would be mine.

172 Cup with proper Recaro racing seats, harnesses and a bit of engine and suspension fettling. 1000kg car with an easy 185bhp and superb dynamics for £3K. The perfect affordable track car that will give you 35mpg to and from the track.

I've not posted one yet, I currenty own both. The PH1 will have to go shortly as I cant really afford to keep both running. As soon as I get back from my little roadtest (read Nurburgring lol) than i'll post up my thoughts and comments.
