Finally had the time and the weather this weekend to do some bits to the 5. Here's some pics, not great as by the time i finished drying it(no wonder they rust to bits i suspect most people lose the will to live and give up) it was getting dark and starting to piss down.Ren 5 026.jpg[/attachment:1hgoy4v4]Ren 5 021.jpg[/attachment:1hgoy4v4]Ren 5 022.jpg[/attachment:1hgoy4v4]Ren 5 027.jpg[/attachment:1hgoy4v4]Ren 5 031.jpg[/attachment:1hgoy4v4]Ren 5 035.jpg[/attachment:1hgoy4v4]Ren 5 039.jpg[/attachment:1hgoy4v4]

Not bad for 18 years hey? Although having only had it for 6 weeks i can't take the credit for it's mintyness. It does need a few things doing, some chips need redoing, the battery tray seems to be happily converting itself back into it's original elements and the rear beam and associated suspension could probably come off for the full rust treatment.
All good fun for next year. :D

Real good find Hoolio - I should think its a real head turner from Renault fans !!.

I remember riding as a passenger in one which must be 15 years ago and I was terrified partly due to how low to the ground you are - great fun :D

Just a couple more as they were needed for insurance.Ren 5 048.jpg[/attachment:2c055ptp]Ren 5 050.jpg[/attachment:2c055ptp]Ren 5 052.jpg[/attachment:2c055ptp]

Looking at those this morning i realised that i'd forgotten to re attach the battery clamp #-o

How did you manage to find this car?

Pure luck and looking every day for almost 6 months. I actually found two in the same condition in quick succession so they are out there.

Looks mint. I spent ages trawling for one of these and gave up in the end, the only decent ones were for money I couldn't justify on what was probably going to end up a second car.

Awesome! It's funny how desirable a mint example is this this, yet you see chavved up snotters and think you'd rather walk everywhere for the rest of your life! Like it.

That takes me back a few years. I had a black 89 model when I lived in London in 1991. For my test drive from the Star garage in Camden I took it around Regents Park. Had never driven a front-wheel drive car before and nearly put it into a set of traffic lights turning right into Swiss Cottage in the wet. Scared the sh*t out of the sales rep! I had mine for four years, and took it as far a field as Grenoble, in the south of France, and Dusseldorf, in western Germany. Certainly went like stink, but mine suffered from 1st gear disintigration (real problem with the 5 turbo), chronic water leaks and eventually a suspect turbo once it got to 60,000 miles. Sold it for a 92 model Clio 16 valver

Ah, that's all very reassuring then :) I actually think 60k is pretty good for a turbo in a 5! As for the handling in the wet, it's not going out in the wet :) especially when i fit the new wheels and tyres. Most of those problems are pretty well known and the Rtoc and 5GT turbo sites are stacked with people who know them inside out and they are pretty much how this place is/will become in a few years time i imagine.

What is the mileage on the car? Looking at its condition, I presume that is has a fully stamped service book. What did you pay for it and where did it come from? Is this your first 5GT?

Yes it's my first GT turbo so i know i have a very steep learning curve ahead of me, i did own a GTX but that was a completely different fish to this. At 14k the service history is a little patchy as it has been laid up for several periods during it's life although it seems to have been mot'd throughout most of it's life apart from the last few years. The owner previous to the guy i bought it off has recently been in touch and is actually none too pleased at the state it's now in :? Apparently it was almost out of the box perfect as opposed to 18 year old perfect, hopefully i can put right some of those little things.
