going in for waranty work next week

got a few thing sto sort out,

1) Emissions warning light started flashing today, not too serious I would hope, since I've got a bit of driving to do before I go in next week
2) Boot catch broken
3) Very lumpy idle for the first few minutes when the car is first turned on. Impossible to drive smoothly as the engine is jumping around all over the place.

Anyone else had any of these issues?

engines that have been thouroughly squeezed to bits like the f4r........all normall to be lumpy, you should see what hondas type r is like. v tec dont work until the engines wArm.......a

actually that's a bit of an exageration. When I first turn it on it is conventionally lumpy, but the throttle is also exceptionally sensitive, but also sort of slow reacting at the same time (difficult to explain!), which makes progress jerky. It will also hunt around a bit if you are on a constant throttle opening

Mine does the same.

It was fine over winter on all the really cold days, but since the weather has gone warm i've noticed that it feels sluggish and unpredictable until i've gone about a mile down the road, when it suddenly surges and then is fine after that.

Same here as well, I've got to get down the dealers as my exhaust is blowing/rattling, and I just blamed the lumpy/jerky behaviour on this.

Mine too! Only takes about a minute to warm up though, normally fine before I get a gap on the main road.

I found sticking it straight into second cures the lumpiness, it's got the torque to deal with it. Deters me from nailing it on a cold engine too.

Many seem to cough and run on three cylinders from cold. I treat it as an in-built mechanism to prevent over-revving during the warm up phase. However, I doubt it was by design!

i had this problem with mine, had it in to 2 diferent renault specialist 'cause i thought an oxegen sensor was fecked. Turns outs it's the engines own 'warm up proceedure' it starts to operate effectively when it gets past 25 deg. Still not sure if this is right but 2 different specialist told me.

My 182 cup used to be the same - lumpy for the first minute or so. The Trophy does it too - think it must be normal. Can make me look a bit stupid when I pull out of work before she's warmed up properly onto quite a quick road and I'm chugging along holding up the traffic!!

The lumpy / rough running is normal and by design believe it or not.

The ECU is programmed to run the car like this for 75 seconds (IIRC from one of the Renault Tech notes) in order to meet emissions standards until the cat has warmed up.

I really like it though as during this time my exhaust (probably thanks to the decat) pops on demand with a quick blip of the throttle In the warmer weather it properly bangs like i've got anti-lag on the car or something

I'll try and find the details on the Dialogys program later, and post it up.

That's bloody interesting actually, because driving out of work today, I had to put my foot down to make a gap and I didn't get too much lag but coming off the throttle next to a metal barrier with the window down, I could hear the exhaust popping and banging, it was great, a really nice metallic sound.

I'm really tempted to get the de-cat pipe at some point, just for a bit more aural appeal, if nothing else, I know you have one Nik, which is it and how much did it cost?
