Just sold my car and need a new car asap, just browsing internet sites and forums (ClioSport) a few nice 172's and 182's

My question is do you think I could buy a decent Trophy for 5K thats what i have in cash now or look for a 172/182 and and have a couple quid to play around with.

Cheers :)

It would be high mileage for 5k.
Or you could get a decent 172cup for 5K

Theres one on PH for 4995 but its got 92k and she's will to drop more. Its just the milage thats putting me off.

Or spend 3k on a mint 172 with 60k on it :?

I would go for a 172 Cup if you can't stretch to a Trophy.

I hear what you guys are saying I'm in no rush yet, I just feel if I buy a 172 or 182 a couple of months down the road I might regret not buying a Trophy now.

I will just have a search of what's up for sale at the moment.

You'll regret buying a cheap one, and will almost certainly need more cadh to buy brakes/ tyres/ belt service/ shox re- furbed...... Wait till you have enough cash for a good one if you are in no rush.

A good 172 cup is £3.5k, a good Trophy is £6.5k.

I've had 3 cliosports now, a 182 (cup-packed in 2005), a 172 cup in 2008, then the Trophy in 2010.

Cup was the most raw/fun, Trophy is the best handling but ultimately requires less 'thought' to go fast.

You would really never tell though, he took it along to one of the local CS rolling road meets & it:

a. Produced more power than the other 182's
b. Was in better condition than most of the 182's

The dampers/cambelt etc have also been done & it has a new SS exhaust from what i remember. Would probably break for well over £3k when you consider the dampers/wheels/seats go for just under £2k by themselves ...

Buy on condition, not mileage.[/quote:3ayf39k9]

I would agree. A low milage one would be nice, but there will be higher milage cars that have been loved which will fall within your budget.
