I may be scaremongering here but there is a thread over on RS at the moment that seems to suggest that if they have not gone totally that there are certainly none to be had anywhere at the present time. If that is the case what are people going to fit?

strange that, was checking prices on blackcircles literally a couple of weeks ago, checked earlier today at work, no mention of them. If that was the case...........888's  not the best daily driver tyre, especially this time of the year, but 474 only comes out when tut weathers nice :D .

Did this not happen last year tho?

I'm considering a set of Hankook Ventus RS2 Z212. Seems to be highly rated and not too expensive when compared to the Michelins which is a bonus.

Chances are its to do with the state of the £, importers (certainly tyres in qty) will be having to pay more for their stock, so tend to hold off buying bulk stock, and tend to stick to bare minimum orders to tide them over.

I had this problem when I first needed new tyres.
Trawling through yellow pages eventually found me some off the shelf.
Michelin seem to do a run of tyres and then wait until the stock is completely gone before making more. I managed to speak to Michelin last time and they told me how many months they thought until they would make more.

PE2's have always been fairly short stocked at places and this happened before where there was a rumour that nowhere had any. I'm sure there are still plenty about but you just have to look harder.

I would probably look at Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetrics or Michelin PS2 if you definately cannot get PE2's.

Posted over on RS;

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ive had a response from michelin on the pe2's, they said:

"We would advise that the Pilot Exalto PE2 in size 205/45 R16 83W is an out of stock item at this moment in time, with no dates on future availability"

and

"We would advise that the Pilot Exalto PE2 in size 205/45 R16 83V is still a current tyre and as far as we know, not yet being superseded by another tyre"

Make of that what you will.

Discontinued probably!

To be fair the GSD3s look like a better every day tyre, the michelins aren't amazing in the wet although you could do a hell of a lot worse!

Haven't had anything put PE2s on teh Trophy, but had Conti's, Dunlop SP whatever they were called on my 172FF and GSD3s on my Civic. Based on those experiences I'd definitely choose the Goodyears if I couldn't get PE2s and didn't want to go with an overly track biased tyre.

I've certainly found it harder to get hold of over the last 12 months. I couldn't see Michelin getting rid of them without a replacement, so hopefully they haven't gone for good, or if they have that we get something even better as a replacement.

Failing that I'd look at F1 asymmetrics if they start doing them in clio 182 size.

Goodyear F1As look a good bet - if in the right size. I was never impressed by F1 GDS3 in the dry until almost worn out - too much tread squirm I would guess.

KwikFit website apparently has a deals for set of 2 or 4 PE2s right now... might be worth a look in if anyone needs some new tyres.
