Im so excited...my dad decided to give up his side of the garage and so me and my brother have just placed an order at westfield for our very own megabusa which we are building ourselves.

we pick all the parts and panels sometime in early-mid december and then its all go go go to get it ready and sva'd before the sun next year.

for those who don't know what a megabusa is, it basically looks like this:

newpics25307071.jpg

newpics25307066.jpg

and this is engine spec:

1300cc hayabusa engine
178bhp @9500rpm
102 lb/ft @7000rpm
6 speed sequential gearbox
0-60 in around 3.3 seconds
430kg
420bhp/ton
11k rev limit

oh and we have got a few options like ap racing brakes, a quaife lsd, wider track, bigger fuel tank etc etc.

so excited to build it and drive it, but of course the trophy will still be tracked too.

hope you like

Well done!

I remember you saying that you were planning on building a Megablade, I'm really pleased you have gone for the 'Busa. The 'Blade engine lacks torque and you would be kicking yourself you didn't pay the extra for the larger engine.

Regarding the LSD, initially I really wanted one, I had elaborate visions of me drifting elegantly round corners. After speaking to a lot of people at MK, MNR etc. Everybody told me thay are not needed and most people competing in the 750mc series prefer their cars without them. From experience, I can say the rear end will move around whenever you want without a LSD. It will also save you many hundreds of pounds.

Are you having a reverse box?

Didn't mean to preach about the LSD, just my thoughts.

its road legal, and you don't need to drive in a helmet either.

yes, originally we were looking at a megablade (partly because not only is the kit cheaper but the engine is thousands cheaper) but we went to westfield for a more in-depth talk about final price, extras etc etc and he hugely recommended the busa over the blade due to what you said, much more torque means it is much better on the road. plus its the difference between a very very fast car and a very very scary car.

reverse box's come standard in the kits now, and they are a 1:1 ratio he was explaining which means that it does actually have 6 speeds in reverse at exactly the same ratio too.

LSD's don't come standard because a huge percentage of westfields custom comes from people buying the cars for hillclimb events, alot of which don't allow lsd's due to regulations etc but he said if its for track and a bit of road use it is a must and well worth the money. But the above reason is why they don't come as standard!

cheers for the comments though!

Very impressive mate.

Always wanted to build something of this type & will do one day.

If you don't mind me asking what sort of money did it cost?

Looking forward very much to the prgress thread.

I might have to finally find ya seeing as your local & could be the Clarkson of the team

cheers SM.

the busa kit (containing everything except engine, gearbox, wheels and tyres) and obviously some of the extras that we have brought is £9995.

so after a few extras, wheels and tyres, engine, you will be looking at anything from 15/16k for a build it yourself, mainly depending on how cheap you source an engine for. Far from cheap, but in terms of performance its a bargain!

Not bad @ all as you say when you consider the performance per £.

Do you have to source your own engine, box etc etc or is it part of a package they put together for you?

either...they can source an engine or you can do it yourself. We are going for the latter, partly because when they source/supply an engine on factory builds, they buy a brand new suzuki hayabusa (for warrantee reasons i assume) and break the bike...so you are looking at 7k just for the engine. whereas you can pick up low mileage 2005 hayabusa engines (some reconditioned too) with sump for in the 3k's.

so many people have said turbo the busa....as if its not fast enough

a whole thread of wip will be kept elsewhere but I will get it on here too.

Its about 8 weeks until we have to go and pick up all the panels and parts etc but westfield have kindly said they will take progress pics of the spaceframe, panels, spraying and whatever exactly else will be happening before we get our hands on it.

I'm so jealous I've just been sick on my keyboard. More than owning one (I probably wouldn't fit anyway - I could hardly get in Olly's Chimaera the other day) I would just love to build the thing. You've got many days of enjoyment ahead of you, just think how good it''ll feel when the engine is in the chassis and you first fire her up.

cheers steve, i think we will be shaking with excitement and goosebumps when it firsts starts up. what a feeling that will be!

building it will be fun and an experience for sure, but i don't think i will properly appreciate the fun of building until it is finished because i'll be so aching to drive it.

UPDATE:

For anyone interested, collection date is first thing this Saturday, making Sunday the first day of work.

We have got our own website for the WIP of the build which we will try and make as detailed and interesting as possible, just as much for us to look back on as others to follow!

Nothing much on the site as yet but thats not surprising seeing as we haven't picked it up

Feel free to have a look at www.megabusa-build.co.uk

the idea of it is that it will be great for us to look back on, and great for someone such as yourself building your own project in the future for information and help.

cheers for the comments.
