Am wanting to spend a day on 007 in the next few weeks, a kind of 'spring clean' that i put all of my car through in Feb/March, especially now the roads seem a bit tidier after all the kacky weather.

I valeted professionally for 6 years, but that was about 5 years ago now so i am a bit out of touch as to the best polishes and waxes to use.

To start i always use AG Shampoo (green one) giving a double wash, especially those manky sills, and then have got 200g of bilt hamber clay to run over it. Have used Meguiars Quik Clay before and it seems to do the job, but its expensive and apparently this stuff is better.

Will probably then give it a going over with AG Super Resin (unless anyone know of a better alternative) and then am considering getting some AG HD wax (but pricey at £30 for 250g or so(?))

Have heard good things about zymol and dodo juice, but wondered if anyone has any experience or preference? I used to use Swissvax a bit back in the day but its TOOOO expensive!

I always use meguiars quick clay as you say it does the job you want it to do.

I then use meguiars step 1,2 and 3 for the waxing!!! (But i do hate doing each step, as it takes forever but does looks the nuts when its finished and lasts forever!!!) However like yourself i have been contemplating on the HD wax as the videos of it on youtube look unreal!!

The best thing to get an idea is, www.detailingworld.co.uk

Hope that helps Elliott.

Thanks for that mate i'll have a gander.

Also found this bloke that was on 5th Gear a while back, check out this website and especially the pictures of the two-tone british racing green and black Veyron that he did... absolutely incredible.

Just can't quite justify £1500 on a valet right now...!

detailing world will have you wishing you didn't ask, it'll be an endless hole to through money into.... then you wishes that you'd gone down the easy route of just paying a specialist to do it.... been there done that lol.

To some degree I agree with Cue.. DW became an endless pit of indecision for me.. I have purchased various wash products, but could never decide which polish & wax/sealant combo I fancy.. (the wax v sealant debate is vast enough in itself..). As with every forum and piece of advice from an individual/group/company, opinions play a big part and ultimately you will still end up with just a narrowed selection of products, rather than a definitive recommendation..

I plan to devote some time to 154 in the next month or so, once I can finally get a few days off work- weekends are always too busy! In the meantime, I'm just washing her and using some DODO Juice Red Mist to help protect the paint.. I quite fancy the Zaino system but then it’s quite pricey and I think relatively complex. Equally, I’ve heard good things about Blackfire..

I think that ultimately I will be going for a sealant rather than a wax due to durability.. Any other opinions?

As above really, you can get into such a muddle with different opinions blah blah blah.

Best thing is to just start simple and find your own way, it's fairly pointless spending huge amounts of money, and you can, unless you have some inkling of what your doing as the chances are it won't look great anyway.

For me when it comes to detailing its not shine you get on day one its the ease of getting that shine back after a period of time.

After putting in some serious graft last September it takes me less than an hour to get the outside of the car looking amazing.

Best thing is to get properly shown how to do it!!

I organized a demo at NEDetailing last year and the advice really helped.

This is what my mate did to mine.

Clayed with Fine poly clay.
Polished with megs#83 on medium pad
Polished with meg#80 on light pad
Polished with Sonus final finish on red SFX pad
Two coats of Chemical Guys Jetseal109 Sealant
Waxed with Collinite 476s
Wiped with Sonus Quick Detailer to remove wax residue.

It came out really well, :D .
