Hi all,
Some of you the forum will know me already, although I've been quiet for a couple years.
I've owned my Black Gold 182 since Oct 07, so I've had it for nearly 7 years. The car has been absolutely fantastic in this time, however due to me recently purchasing an E46 M3, I cannot justify keeping the Clio (as much as I'd love to).
I was originally after a Trophy however the lack of Xenons/Climate control and the red paintwork, poor quality carpet and cloth door cards put me off.
The car left the factory in Full Fat specification with both Cup packs and all of the usual 182 features such as climate control, automatic xenon headlamps, rain sensitive wipers etc. However in my ownership I have fitted Trophy Recaro Trendline seats with the original Trophy subframes (I had these re-powder coated prior to fitting), Full Trophy Sachs Suspension setup (Dampers rebuilt and dyno'd this year by Simon at Cornering Force), Trophy rear spoiler (painted by Simon at Spray Shack) and Clio Trophy Turinis (with correct offset).
This now means that this is the highest specification Clio 182 you could have with all of the comforts of a regular 182 plus the above extras to enhance the driving experience and none of the drawbacks of a Trophy.
History/Condition
Take 3 of the best examples of Clio Trophys you can find for sale and add their paperwork together and it probably wouldn't come close to how much history this car has. I dare not add up how much money I have spent on it, but there is paperwork over an inch thick! The car is (of course) HPI clear and the body work is clean and straight as you'd expect for an enthusiast owned car. There is the odd stone chip on the front, however these are unavoidable even with the most pampered cars, unless you don't drive them!
The car has two keys, all of the original handbooks and I am the third owner.
The car has been maintained by myself as I have spent many years in the motor trade and I am a degree qualified engineer. I also run my own specialist services for these cars and have done many timing belts (a job that people in the trade often get wrong) on these vehicles and have all of the specialist Renault tools for the job.
I have kept all of the receipts for the parts whenever I have carried out any work and you can buy this car knowing that no expense has been spared in maintaining it. No nasty cutting of corners by main dealer technicians looking to make a bonus or back street garages trying to keep costs down.
Mileage
The mileage is currently at around 86,000. I have driven cars with less than 25,000 miles on them that do not drive as well as my example. The engine produces excellent power, the gearbox feels tight as a rifle bolt and the steering/handling are spot on.
Recent Work
I have recently replaced the front wishbones in order to renew the bushes and balljoints. The oil and filter are always kept in top condition and I have always used ester based synthetic oils (Motul 300V or FUCHS Pro S). The car has also had steering rack bushes renewed aswell as inner tie rods and track rod ends.
As mentioned above the dampers were recently rebuilt, powdercoated and dyno'd by Simon @ Cornering force at a cost of around £500.
The timing belt was last replaced in July 2011, and in Feb 2013 the car had a new auxiliary belt kit (with tensioner and idler) as the tensioner siezed on the one fitted in 2011 (a common occurence with these cars sadly).
I will be fitting new rear discs and pads to the car ready for the new owner as they are looking a little corroded at the moment, so take this as done.
Modifications
I have kept the modifications to a minimum, as these cars are so fantastic in standard specification that they need little if any tweaking.
The car is currently fitted with a Scorpion RS192 stainless exhaust with a modified catalytic converter with 2.5 inch exit and a de-resonated mid section. This setup gives a boost in mid range torque and peak power and a gives the car a nice bark. Alternatively, if you would prefer the original exhaust system and an original cat, the original exhaust has been carefully stored in order to preserve its condition when the scorpion was fitted in 2008 and can be refitted along with a standard catalyst. I also have a BTB cat back system available (these are regarded as being the holy grail of exhausts for these cars) the buyer is welcome to buy the car with this exhaust instead of the scorpion for an additional £250 if the asking price is met.
The brake flexi hoses have been uprated with Goodridge stainless steel braided items and the brake fluid has been recently flushed through with ATE super blue.
The inlet manifolds were blue printed by Jamsport and were refitted with PTFE intake manifold gaskets and the ECU has been remapped with a Fastchip calibration.
The panel filter has been uprated with an ITG item which has been regularly cleaned and re-oiled.
The rear bumper insert has been replaced with a carbon fibre item from streamline carbon. Silvertec indicator bulbs fitted all round aswell as genuine philips LED sidelights and number plate light.
In car entertainment
There is also an Alpine X305S headunit which provides excellent USB/Ipod connectivity via a neatly installed lead inside the glovebox. The alpine KCE-400BT bluetooth module has also been added to this unit and provides you with handsfree calls and the ability to stream music to the stereo via bluetooth. The front speakers have been upgraded with Rainbow SLC230 components (these were about £170 if I remember correctly) these are powered by a neatly installed Genesis amplifier in the boot.
Wheels/Tyres
The car currently has three sets of wheels (I'm a terrible hoarder when it comes to car goodies)
- There is the 16" Speedline Turini Trophy wheels in Anthracite with Michelin Pilot Exalto 2 Tyres with approx 2.5mm tread. 3 of these are sadly kerbed however I can arrange for these to be refurbed prior to the buyer collecting the car.
There is also a set of Speedline 15" 2118s in white with Federal RS-R tyres with approx 3.5mm. No kerbing at all however the paint has bubbled in a couple places, nothing major at all.
There is also the original 8 spoke Renaultsport cup pack alloy wheels with no tyres, all mint apart from one that desperately needs a refurb, however if the buyer wants these wheels then I will get the michelins fitted to these and the one kerbed wheel refurbed to match the others perfectly.
Price
I am asking £5500 which I am aware is high, but then I wanted to give buyers the opportunity to buy probably the best 182 on the market that has been used daily. I could sell all of the goodies and return the car to standard and get more money than this but I think it would be a great shame to break up such a fantastic car.
