But seriously, what do you reckon?
Does anyone have any experience of anything remotely like this or a 4x4 modded to actually go off road?

this reminds me of the "Fall Guy" truck...

where are you going to park this ? seriously its massive ! and i imagine its £400+ to tax.
Personally i'd say you will be bored with it within 6 months, my mate drooled over Land Rover Defenders for years and finally sold his 11k mk1 Exige (yes, you read that right) to buy one...4 months late he was sick of it, and got a big "i told you so" from me.
If you're a builder / farmer / fall guy / gipsy etc... i'd say buy it, otherwise have a good think on it.
but its your hard earned £...

Hmmmm, it's kinda cool; if you've always wanted one then unless you get one you always will!

Mate of mine has a defender and has fully rebuilt it and taken it on expeditions across the Sahara, into the alps etc. He loves it, I don't mind driving it, but unless you're actually off road, it can become tiresome. The sheer presence of them is certainly very cool, but they really don't handle at all well on the road (arguably as you might expect!). A buddy of his has a much more up to date landcruiser and has had it lifted and fitted with a huge metal winch bumper. Inside it's fabulous - all the luxuries that the landy forgoes. Apparently they're very capable machines and of course being Jap they're reliable too...

I'd agree with the above - as a toy great, but instead of the T, you may find yourself getting bored..

A mate of mine was telling me how his uncle has a lifted ex military defender that they off road in. He loves it. But when you off road, naturally mud gets everywhere. With it being such an old design, everything fails. They have to practically rebuild it each year to keep going. I thought that was silly, but I could see the fun.

Then I saw that car, started my research, and it went from there. I could see if you used it like a normal car that it would get tiresome, as it is completely unfit for purpose. Like taking a ferrari to sudan. But if you used it off road properly, green lanes and further afield etc, it could be like moutain biking in a car.

I just thought it was "cismet" that a one off car, for this country anyway, should turn up at a price that I could afford and its like five miles from my house. Its a small world.

I've always wanted an S1 Exige, but VHPD's are very fragile. It is a special car. There is a 340R for sale currently with 5k on the clock for £23K. Yes its another absolute dream car of mine, but in many ways just as rediculous. No boot, no doors, no roof, no windows, sticky tyres, fragile engine... etc

I often drive my mates normal land cruiser and they are very nice motors, although they do look a bit big for UK roads. I think people really will think you're trying to compensate for something by driving that think.

Oh, and it'll be shit on and off road with tyres like that. The only off roaders that use tyres that big are ice/snow motors that need to distribute the weight better, oh and monster trucks

That's perfect for the school runs and trips to the supermarket! Does it come with a step ladder to get in?

defenders always seem to need rebuilding lol.
Can I count you as a "for" BenG?

I like it, its cool but expensive to run/maintain, if you plan to use it in the way it was setup to do then go for it. :D

Yup- dug it out again for good measure. I like the juxtaposition of two similar coloured beasts, both perfectly adapted for their individual specialism, as it were..

It's amazing what a difference 'real' off-roading I.e. Dune driving and so on, made to my mate's driving; we used to amble along green lanes in low range, but now he nails everything at speeds I just couldn't believe- this is why the car is in need of semi Frequent checks and tlc.. It's used properly, but boy what a tool It is!

Absolutely, like the Bowler Wildcat/Nemesis or the VW Touareg Paris-Dakar Rally cars. Who would'nt want one of those. 90mph across muddy fields, sand dunes, snow, ice, you name it.

I see a £16k hilux... A mate of mine had one, albeit not a jackup one, and the novelty wore off after a couple of weeks. IMO, Unless you're going to use it for it's intended purpose then what's the point? Using it around town etc i can imagine it will be a nightmare, aweful fuel economy, difficult to park, very wide, not great immediate visibility and so on.

But hey, i've always wanted an Alfa 155 with the grey wheels, that'll be a bastard to live with too... So go for it! at least arrogant BMW drivers won't cut you up! :D
