Would it be an idea to flag up any Trophys spotted / for sale without Sachs Dampers? I've heard some cavalier views about the dampers and fitting coilovers instead. Maybe a register of Trophy horrors.

Good idea, as personally I think a Trophy without the Sachs isn't a Trophy anymore.

Artdealer, did you not have a trophy on coilovers for sale a long time ago? I seem to remember talking to you about one when i was looking out for my trophy?!?!

I think anyone buying such a specialist limited edition car will do their homework and will quickly spot if it doesn't have original dampers. I think "Trophy horrors" is just scare mongering potential owners... I agree that the dampers are the large defining factor for the Trophy and if someone is dumb enough to buy one and not realise they have been replaced then that is their own fault.

I'm all for a useful forum with a register, tech help and so on, but i'm not into patronisingly spoon feeding people.

Just my opinion! :)

If some one has the misfortune to buy one in error - and let's face it people buy them because they are red sometimes! At least we will have a heads up maybe. I'm not for Nanny State either, but it's an expensive miss.

Agree a good percentage would check.

Nick: Wouldn't something that costs up to 1/3 of the used value of a Trophy to be changed constitute a horror? :) Mind you once gone, unlikely to be replaced anyway - they can add to the ranks of cars with 'Cup' suspension.

artdealer,
I see what you're saying, but I think "horror" is the wrong word. If someone changes the suspension then to them it is not a horror, it's a decision they have made and so you would think they would see it as an improvement. (unless they are just ill informed and don't know they can be rebuilt, and don't want to buy new from Renault, in which case the rest of the car may not be looked after as most of us on here would do).

So I suggest a less negative title, such as "Trophys without Sachs"

I do agree that removing the Sachs kinda renders having a Trophy as largely pointless.

To think I didn't get The Sun job when Kelvin MacKenzie left :)

'Trophy's Without Sachs' sounds OK. Now where's that hamster...
