To be honest the consequences of having an incident at the nurburgring is the thing that i've had most concern about. Now that could be really expensive.

I've heard that you have to pay for any damage to the track (armco, clean up operations), the recovery vehicle, and for any lost revenue that would have been taken whilst the track is closed...that could end up being really expensive, and it would not be covered by trackday insurance as that only covers your car!

On our first trip to the 'ring someone in our party went in to the barrier, just put a bit of paint on the barrier but smashed the front of the car up a fair bit. They took his car away and wanted £2000 cash for the barrier repair and tow truck etc before they would give the car back.

After about 30 of us turned up at the recovery yard they eventually gave the car back though lol

There's also the issue of someone screwing up and going into you!!! Then there are the uncontrollables like blow-outs etc...

I bought my car with an un-secured loan and I can't afford to write it off on a track, so I will always take out the insurance. When I'm wealthy enough to not be bothered if I do £5K + damage to a car then I'll go without!

This is my concern too.

For example your brakes may still be fine but the person behind you may have pads that no longer grip very well and will just end up in the back of your car...

As far as I know trackday insurance covers you for any damage to your car, be that driving into a tyre wall, or another car driving into you?

Nurburgring

Interested in the comments about the Nurburgring as my trophy is taking me for a look see in April. We're going on public days rather than a track day.
Since the Nurburgring is a public toll road (I believe!!) I wonder if my normal insurance would cover the car - it's not actually a track day when we're going.
Any insurance experts here?

Most policies now a days won't cover you on unrestricted, one way, toll roads!!!

Insurance companies are paying out more and more now for all the associated costs with crashes (whiplash etc...) and subsequently they are getting much more stringent with paying out.

Getting recovered from anywhere within 50 miles of the 'Ring is going raise suspicions I would have thought!?!?!?

So does that mean if i have an accident on the QE2 bridge in Essex/Kent i'm not covered. Its a one way toll road.

trackdayz

I've had track day insurance on my Westfield for the last 3 years now, all through the same broker and insurance Co. They also insure that car for road use, and I've had no claims at all. They have recently also insured the Trophy for me.
So, wanting to do Spa and Nurburgring in in the Trophy in April, I rang them today and they confirmed I can also have track day insurance for the Trophy at the same rate per day as the Westfield (£59/day+£16 admin fee). However, when I asked about using the track day insurance outside the UK I got a firm "NO". This particular insurer will not cover either car for track days outside UK.
So I guess I'll just have to be "sensible" (if I can...)

You can take out trackday insurance in addition to your road insurance with the specialist trackday insurance companies.

I used competition car insurance for the 'Ring last year and it was only £65 a day based on a car worth £6.5k...
