Envy is not a very attractive word but when I spotted a couple of posts on FB the green eyed monster popped up his head. Spending an extended time down on the southern tip of the Americas is one of my "things to do before.........."

Before the Inca Trail we spent 2 days in a place called Cusco which is at 10,000ft, this was to acclimatise as the highest point on the trail is 13,779ft (Dead Woman’s Pass). At 10,000ft there is 50% less oxygen in the air than at sea level, it’s a weird feeling at first as you come over light headed and a few of us nearly passed out walking up the stairs to our hotel room.
We were told by our tour guide to drink ‘coca tea’ which helps increase the blood flow.

On the 2nd day we set off to visit the sacred valley. On route we visited a small community where the local women showed us how they transformed animal wool such as alpaca into the beautiful items of clothing.
Here they are turning the wool into strands of fabric so they can work with them.
This lady dies the wool using natural plants and seeds etc as you can see on the table.
Here the ladies are weaving the fabrics.

All the holes dug out in the hillside are where the Inca’s buried the dead bodies.
Next we were taken to a Market and were shown how silver jewellery was made and how the stones were cut and placed into them.

Haha, no chance. If you took your Trophy out there it would not come back in 1 piece. There is little law and order on the roads and its pretty much every man for himself. We got a hell of a scary taxi ride into Lima one day that I will never forget! Crazy as hell!
Looks absolutely awesome, I'd love to do this soon but next year its a Honeymoon in Oz. Perhaps 2012.
We went to China last year, from Beijing to Hong Kong. Spent 2 days walking along the great wall and 2 days cycling around Yangshuo which was absolutely fantastic. I'd highly recommend it. I love 'adventure' holidays, so much more memorable than 2 weeks in a hotel.

That sounds amazing. Spending my hols sat chilling on a sunny beach somewhere abroad doesn't do it for me, I prefer to do something challenging and memorable like you say + I love hiking. Im planning my next trip to mt kilimanjaro
.I used GAP Adventures. They were really good and everything was well organised, our guide was brilliant and was very passionate about it so he explained everything about the history in great detail. Recommended!

On the theme of a few comments above about adventures... Any suggestions for a honeymoon next Oct fulfilling the following:
- A bit of adventure
- A bit of history
- Time to chill and relax
- Preferably luxury accomodation
Now the potentially tough bit..
We only have at most 7 days, so don't want to be travelling too far and experiencing vastly different time zones, as my fiance (who's a teacher) is potentially going straight back to work upon return..
Oh and warm temps would be ideal..
GO!

That's really quite difficult but..................this time of year, not too far, little bit of history and adventure and luxury I'd be thinking about North Africa. Lebanon, Jordan and Syria I personally would love to visit but I suspect would be a step too far for most on their honeymoon
