Over revving at idle

Recently in this cold weather up north the trophy has been over-revving on a morning. Is this normal on the 182 engine as some sort of warming up process or is there something going wrong? It doesn't do it once warm that's all and this is the first winter I've had it

I always assumed that this happens on most cars as sort of an auto-choke which revs the car slightly to warm the cat quicker to get more accurate readings for the emissions and ecu?i think...

This is normal cold running. Shouldn't be any different to any other time though. Maybe about 1200 rpm?

Thought this was the case, though never had a car previously that did this so just double checking.

When the temp sensor malfunctions the idle speed goes way up, so I assume this a cold-running procedure.
