Irregular idle?

I have only owned #372 for a few weeks now,loving it!
The revs at idle are quite irregular,they aren't climbing,just sort of popping up and down.
It's probably nothing,but was just wondering wether this is normal or it may be due to the cat being removed?
Should it really be remapped if de-catted?
With the cat being replaced on the centre section,will this fail emissions in MOT or is there still another major cat in the system?

Your car will need a catalytic converter to pass its MOT. There is one catalytic converter after the manifold, you should be able to see it easily by looking under the car.

When is the irregular idle happening? Is it all the time, intermittently or only on start up? Most 182's have a slightly 'lumpy' idle on start up which settles after a very short amount of time. If the engine revs are continuing to flare after this time I would take it to a garage and have it checked over.

I'm afraid I do not know if your car will need re-mapping if it has been de-catted. If it were me I would give one of the tuning specialists a call about whether you need to or not.

When you start the car from cold the revs usually bob up and down 100 rpm or so until the engine has warm up, if it's still doing it after the engine has fully warmed up (after a short drive) then it could indicate a fault. When my Coolant Temperature Sensor failed it caused the revs to fluctuate quite a bit but only once the engine was warm, it got worse over time and eventually became un-driveable. Thats a common fault.


It sounds like you have nothing to worry about to be honest.

Also, you don't need to have the ECU remapped after fitting a decat.

As ben states, it's common while the engine is cold. Check how clean the air intak valve is if it's doing it when warm. These get clogged up with oil and crud...

Probably best described as 'lumpy' to be honest.It is definitely more noticeable when cold,but does run like this when up to temp.
I think perhaps I am just not used to it.There is certainly no problems whilst in driving conditions.
