197 24mm master cylinder? and is it a simple bolt on to 182 servo?

I believe so. I can’t be arsed with doing it myself, neither do I have the time right now, so Alex at AWMotorworks will be doing he MC swap.
I hope with the correct MC I won’t experience any of the dead pedal issues that others often complain of.

I like Alex, not afraid to go in, up to his shoulders with those dirty jobs you don`t want to tackle yourself.

I was thinking of going that route and changing the MC as well when I upgraded to the 4-pots (sharing the same concerns). In the end, it didn't happen (the MC change) and, thankfully, I've experienced zero issues with the 4-pot setup. They have been superb with quite frankly ridiculous stopping ability, even after a prolonged period of getting hammered.

Interesting you say that Andy and i don't disbelieve you for one moment. I've spoken to lots of folk who have carried out the Brembo upgrade and it seems probably a 60/40 split in favour of those who have had a long pedal thereafter. When discussing my plans with Alex, he said he would only do it with a 197/200MC too and he thought i wouldn't be happy with using the stock 182 MC.

Glad to hear you think they're a worthy upgrade though, some folk seem to think they make little to no difference. I'm hoping to ditch a good chunk of unspring weight again with the callipers and adding the PMS 2 piece discs for good measure. :)

Does this present the option of an ABS delete set up for a 182, or a simple upgrade to 4 pots for a 172 Cup?

Readily available from Autodoc.

Been collecting some upgrades for WZD over the winter. One of which was an improved brake package in the form of the following:

  • PMS 285mm Brembo 4 pot caliper package.
  • PMS 285mm x 28mm 2 piece rotors
  • New rear brake calipers with red powder coated carriers.
  • EBC Racing RP1 front pads (Interested to try these before going back to Pagid RSL29s)
  • Pagid RS4-2 rear pads.
  • Mr Pink stainless steel pin kit.
  • PureTrack titanium shim kit.
  • Castrol SRF Racing fluid.
  • Genuine Renault Clio 197/200 Master Cylinder.
All fitted up perfectly as always by Alex @ AW Motorworks.
To anyone interested the Evo Corse X3MAs fit without the need for spacers (My 5mm spacers were left in place in the photos)
To be honest i really liked my previous setup with the 29s but i found at Snetterton i was never 100% confident in standing on the brakes at the end of the back straight after a few laps. The pedal never went on me and the brakes were always there . But they were nearing their limit and psychologically they used to spook me a bit.

Also dumped 1.5kg from the disc and 5kg from the calipers/carriers so 6.5kg of unspring mass each side.

Big brakes and Toyo R888Rs in time for the snow. haha :D

I would have preferred the AP 5000R kit but they don t have any dust seals and my car is used 365.
These should be hopefully as good as im ever likely to get for it.

Small update tonight.
After 2 weeks driving on the RP1s I’d decided they just weren’t feeling the way I wanted the car to feel. I used Pagid RSL 29s in the OEM calipers and I’ve used 29s in all my cars. I just like the way the Pagids feel so I’ve opted to just pull the trigger on a new set. The RSL range has been developed into improved compounds now with the addition of the RSL 2 and 2E so opted for a set of RSL 2s.
Cost the same as a Clio but the pad and rotor life is amazing so I’m happy with that.

RP1s out after just over 2 weeks lol, RSL 2s in and all was right with the world again. 😅

Last week she came back from Alex at AWM after it needing a bit of love after developing an oil leak around the sump again. This was done last in 2019 when i bought the car back, but after after a bit of head scratching it was decided to give it a whole new sump and gasket etc. Alex also fixed a small coolant leak for me by the thermostat.
Whilst there were there they found quite a lot of wear to the splined drive tube between the gearbox output shaft and the intermediate driveshaft. This must have been causing quite a bit of chatter under the car but i hadn't heard it due to the exhaust note. A new one was fitted and the driveline is nice and tight again. Also found one of my roll centre bearings has play so I've ordered a new pair of those, that has only lasted 18 months of road use so they will now be a full service item regularly i expect.

My last item was to put the OEM cat back in, im officially old now and wanted to shut the car up a bit. A full race de-catted PMS is a lovely sound, but can get a bit much day to day. Driving to work this morning i was amazed at how much quieter it was inside. It almost felt grown up!

All in, excellent service from Alex and the boys as always. Triggers Broom rides on!!

When Alex had the car last week he noticed there was some play in my OS bottom ball joint. These are spherical bearings as part of my roll centre kit.
As you all know, my car is my daily driver which covers 250mls+ a week in all seasons and all weathers.
So the exposed bearings really do take a hiding from the life the car lives.
These bearings went in April 2020, so they haven’t done bad considering. They do get a regular cleaning/regressing too, but it’s just not enough to keep them good for any length of time without dust boots. (I’m going to investigate some universal boots for them)

2 new bearings ordered up with super service as always from McGill Motorsport. I had them fitted in about an hour. Super easy to do which was nice.
Just in time for Mondays MOT.
