Nope. I'm fitting cup dampers. To hell with the Trophy dampers. Can't afford new ones and I'm not paying £600 every 2 years, ie; every other year! for a refurb. No guarantee how long new ones or a refurb will last and I'm not happy with that. So peed off with the situation was seriously thinking of changing the car - had it from new, 33k miles, FSH, always garaged... Thankfully my brother was over this weekend and talked some sense into me. Spoken to Ktec this morning. They have 182 cup dampers for £60 each. These will be fitted to my car. It's my car and my money. I will be happier with this. The car is in VGC and is worth keeping.
Many people will not realise the T isnt my daily driver. I have another car. So if i have to cart family or friends around, or the roads/weather are crap i use my daily driver. Hence only 5k miles in two years. Which is why im more than slightly annoyed about it all.
You can get 182 cup dampers cheaper than what ktec sell them for. Bit of a shitter about your Sachs dampers. I think it's just your luck if they last or not tbh.
It's incredible to think that the 182 Cup dampers (weighing in at ~£100/pair) are about x10 times the price of Sach dampers. I mean, they are not x10 better. The Cup dampers do seem exceptionally good value.
An excellent point marrow! However due to people wanting originality / standard car I think people will always look down on a T with cup dampers. Can't help but feel let down by Renault really eh?! Does anyone know how technical (or not) it is to service / refurb the Sachs?
Are we really just talking about BG being the only people who can get hold of the Sachs specific replacement parts required to rebuild the shock?
When they fail, I presume we are talking about having to replace the seals and end caps of the damper assembly.
If you strip down a damper, and have all the parts to hand, why couldn't an exact replica of the parts required for rebuild be machined by someone other than BG?
And also, why if BG use genuine parts to rebuild the damper, is it not as good as when it first left the factory? The only difference from when they were new should be the outer casing of the damper which has been subjected to the elements. All internals should now be factory fresh?
