I don't have a 16mm drill bit or a vice or the ability to assemble the units with springs to check the fitment myself after modifying. It's booked into the garage for Monday to get the dampers fitted so I don't intend to muck about with something that was never a problem, I just wanted fresh...
Cheers for the response but I should have paid more attention to your comments in post 24 of the thread, what a pain in the ass.
I'll just use the original spacer and half nut if this is what's required to make the new spacer/nut work. I don't have the time, inclination or the tools to muck...
Mine have also arrived...anyone fancy having a stab at making sense of this or is it ultimately a shite part as I'm finding out with some cliosport forum threads on the topic?
Black ink is where the spacer nut bottoms out on the rod.
Based on an old post on the Clio Trophy Facebook page I saw one guy mentioning Passat rears doing the job. Managed to find the right ones on Ebay, 'Vetech' branded and they seem to do the trick as I've just fitted one over the black cap and cable tied it below it.
In less good news, the second...
I've ordered the SNR kit from autodoc so will see how it goes. I've had good experiences with autodoc so far, delivery is never the quickest but it all comes from Germany so understandable.
Thanks for the input, RPD do indeed list the kit here- https://renaultpartsdirect.co.uk/parts/steering-suspension/543a09780r/
However, they list the spacer nut separately at an absolutely farcical price of £22-...
Fuck it! Given up!
The gaiter just pops out of shape, what a waste of time.
Will stick to removing the dampers before each winter and hope for the best.
Given up on the jubilee clip idea as their size ranges are quite limited from what I can see online and there's a fair discrepancy between the damper diameter (~50mm) and gaiter diameter (~80mm). Going to go with cable ties and hope for the best.
My thoughts also so I've given up on the idea. The new OEM items have arrived from France so I'll see if I can secure the bottom of the gaiterto the shock.
One thing I hadn't realised was how tight the bump stops are in these from new, my old ones have always slipped in very easily so I had no...
Have I definitely got the right thing?
How on earth does this get over the shock?? I just played about with the gaiter and it has some stretch but not much.
Look at the difference in diameters.
Cheers, my original gaiters have definitely seen better days and it'll be good to have 2 sets of stops.
Have you tried securing the bottom of the gaiter to the shock at all?
And looking at this...is this link for the gaiter only or the complete thing pictured including the bump stop?
Assuming they don't come in pairs?
Might be easier to just use all original parts and use a jubilee clip to secure the bottom of the rubber.
Can anyone explain if I'm being a twat here...at a glance these will neither fit the original bump stop or even fit over the dampers.
Don't even look like they'd stretch.
I'll be buying two new headlights and I've noticed the Hella ones (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/163585924099?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=gt2bXHAaQNG&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=cyMunfjgTbG&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY) are described as 'without motor for headlamp levelling'.
Is...
Yeah they're the originals which don't do a huge amount to stop the ingress of dirt but there's an aftermarket kit available that's been mentioned in the past.
Will need to have a dig and see what it was.
What are people currently doing with theirs over and above the crap rubber boots that came as standard?
As I've mentioned in the main Sachs rebuild thread, a scraper/wiper seal mod is what I was wanting but Cornering Force are currently unable to offer this so my freshly refurbed dampers are...
If I was after a set I'd be wanting to get them refurbed and factor that in to the price, assuming it's been a few years.
Suspect they'd get snapped up at mid-high hundreds but that's just my take.
I was just meaning generally so I can give me 2 pence, I'm not after a set.
i.e. freshly refurbed/used and not refurbed for a few years/refurbed but sat around for 5 years etc.
What condition are the front shocks in?
There's a set on ebay up at an absolutely radio rental price, been relisted twice and mentioned in the other thread-

I remember some people on the cliosport forum thinking the ~£720 I paid for a spare new set was steep in 2020.
That's cloud cuckoo land asking prices though, would need to be utterly desperate. I sold my late dad's Jaguar XJ for £3000 last year to put value in perspective.
