New year and new films out:

VENUS: exclusive preview tickets

Venus, a hilarious and moving coming-of-age tale, stars screen legends Peter O'Toole and Leslie Phillips as a pair of elderly actors charged with looking after a surly teenage girl. This film will be released on January 26, but you can see it ahead of the crowds on January 18 at one of our 20 preview screenings. See The Knowledge on Saturday or Culture on Sunday to find out how to claim two tickets.

I don't buy the Times, so probably won't post more on that one.

SMOKIN ACES competition with Empire

http://www.empireonline.com/competit...n.asp?CID=1066

Here's a chance for you and five friends to catch the new thriller early!
Universal Pictures and Working Title Films release Joe Carnahan's SMOKIN’ ACES in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on January 12th, and Empire Online has preview screening tickets to give away.

When Mob boss Primo Sparazza took out a $1m contract on Buddy ‘Aces’ Israel (Jeremy Piven), a sleazy magician who agreed to turn state’s evidence against the Vegas mob, word spread quickly throughout the criminal underworld. Bounty hunters, thugs-for-hire, smokin’ hot vixens and double-crossing mobsters all joined in the hunt. The FBI, sensing a chance to use Aces to bring down Sparazza, placed him into protective custody – under the supervision of two agents (Ryan Reynolds and Ray Liotta) who were dispatched to Aces’ casino hideout. With all eyes on Tahoe, a wave of various hired “guns†collide in a darkly comic race to hit the jackpot and rub out Aces, all while the FBI is trying to keep him alive.

The film stars Jeremy Piven (ITV’s “Entourageâ€Â, Very Bad Things), Ryan Reynolds (Just Friends, Blade: Trinity), Ray Liotta (Revolver, Goodfellas), Ben Affleck (Hollywoodland, Clerks II), Andy Garcia (Ocean’s Twelve, Modigliani), Peter Berg (Collateral, “Aliasâ€Â), Jason Bateman (Dodgeball, “Arrested Developmentâ€Â), Matthew Fox (“Lostâ€Â) and in their motion picture debuts singers Alicia Keys and Common.

We have four sets of tickets to give away. Each winner will be able to take five friends along to the screening:

Time: 6.30 pm
Location: Covent Garden Hotel, London

I saw PERFUME on New Year's Day, fantastic film, very different and original, quite disturbing at times. Based on a very good book apparently with some top performances from Hoffman and Rickman. Makes you very glad to not be living in the 18th Century.

Keen to see this as Alejandro González Iñárritu and Guillermo Arriaga have produced some fine work in the past.
