I used to have a red Fiat Coupe 20VT a few years back. Really fun little thing, didn't handle well but looked good and went pretty quick.

BUT: it turned completely pink over two years as the pigment in the paint oxidised (or whatever it does). It was an R-reg and this was in 2002.

So I'm thinking, now that I'm about to buy a Trophy, will they all be various shades of pink fairly soon? And if so, what can be done about it?

Will Trophies turn pink over time? lol Good question. Red fades over time but you can prolong the process by using products which protect the paintwork. The more exposure to the sun the more susceptible it is.

Probably and there's not going to be a whole lot you will be able to do about it really but it's important to keep it out of the sun as much as you can and to use a good washing/polishing/waxing regime. there are a fair few products out there with oils in them to enrich the paintwork and stop it drying out, and it's not all complete BS.

I just keep mine clean, good wash once per week, and get it waxed, polished and sealed once a year.

When/if it does turn pink then i will just have to get it resprayed, which by the time it does turn pink it will probably have that many stone chips on the front end that it will need a respray. In half a hour on Thursday the Trophy got sprayed by 2 different gritters 4 times, and it didnt even get icy that night, :x

Sorry, what i meant was i get it done by a professional once per year and do it myself the rest of the time, infact just today i washed my wheelarches + dampers, wheels, under the bonnet, outside of car + wax and interior, i was only planning to give it a quick clean but got a bit carried away and ended up spending about hours on it.

red is the most susceptible colour to oxidisation, so yes they will if owners don't keep up to them - but a good detailer will bring to red back.

Is our paint just red or is there a laquer topcoat? Touch-up pot from Reno comes with a laquer.

Flat reds never used to have laquer hence a good polish cut the top layer of the 'pink' paint. And your polishing cloth would change colour.

If there is laquer you wont actually touch the paint will you?

My Puma had pink doorhandles and wingmirrors (made out of plastic rather than metal), as you can see in this pic from when I bought it (you can see the mirror is pinker anyway).

Autoglym paint restorer pretty much sorted this out, but since my dad's been neglecting it, the pink has returned.

I wonder if this means the plastic bits of the Trophy might pinkify quicker than the metal bits?
