OK, so I feel I need to draw some conclusions and wrap this up after the 2 months or so for which it's been running, and during which time we've collected 38 data points, and so around 10% of the remaining cars. There's a wide spread of mileages, with some interesting clusters and wide gaps.
Some possible categories? Please forgive the caricaturing here.
- Museum pieces - sub 25000 - #055 and #004
- Fair weather/Summer/Welsh Weekender only/Sunday/third cars - 36000 through to say 62000. So around 3K to nearly 6K miles a year over the lifetime.
- Mainstream/second car/short commute/blast most weekends - 67000 through 94000. Approaching but still short of average miles per year across all cars (which I think is late 8000s a year)
- Well loved/daily drive/long commute/only car on the drive - 112000 to 125000. Above average annual mileage.
- Moon and back - 150000 (#311) - the clear winner
- #396, or more accurately #396.1 and #396.2, anyone's guess what's' going on here but added together the mileages at 143829 still fail to match the solo effort of #311.0
I hope it's been interesting for everyone. Thanks for everyone's participation.
We never did get to the bottom of the £20K eBay Trophy, did we? Maybe someone could hazard a guess at appropriate current values for each of the mileage categories above?
