I and a couple of others, it seems, offered him £9k in February though he was quite dismissive of that at the time!

Should have taken your money then and not been as greedy - 9k was a good bid for a 125k car in this market.

Hows 345 treating you - enjoying it I hope (y)

I would agree with you but on to bigger and better things... Mine is actually 177 (one of two 177s slightly ominously) but it's a cracking car and I love the rawness and simplicity. I picked it up in April (I think) and have been slowly working through some minor jobs on it to bring it up to standard (genuine new boot grommets, steering pump leak fixed, CD mechanism fixed, replacement genuine brake pipe, replacement genuine steering gaiter, AC re-gassed, a few new bits of trim and the underside sealed with Lanoguard!)

May I just ask.

If you own one of the duplicate Trophy No. 177's.. why does your profile state you own Trophy No.345?

What's the story behind there being 2 #177s? I've never heard of this! :)

Apparently, there's two of them. More info here in the car's owners register thread. Take a read and make your own mind up.

Not the first time this has cropped up and I doubt the last... Especially as time goes by and the cars increase in value. We see it all the time with certain classic cars now being (re)created because of their value, Old Mini's particularly Cooper's and Cooper S's are notorious for logbook creations (basically ringers) and I heard somewhere recently that there are now more of a certain sought after old Ford Escort in existence than Ford actually made... Unscrupulous sorts will always find ways to make a quick buck. Dare I say it, the ease with which a Trophy could be cobbled together from any old Clio really, does make for an uneasy situation, which is why the Owners Register of this forum and @SharkyUK 's 'Trophy Tracker' website will be an invaluable resource in the future.

I don't think that's the case though. As the thread said, it's more likely that Renault made a mistake. My VIN number brings up that it's a Trophy in the My Renault app.

Well, it's there on the thread that a forum member was somewhat surprised by a car surfacing for sale with a trader with the same number as his, when was it, 2016 or something? So it does seem to be the case that there are two cars with the same number pertaining to them. No matter how anyone chooses to spin it, to me it just seems really odd. I just can't see Renault making two sets of a few certain seat sticker numbers with regards to these duplicate cars which crop up from time to time, but that's just my opinion. However, so long as you're happy with the car and enjoying it, that's the main thing.

I thought the same but the previous owner had had a Ducati 748R. They were numbered and there was one with the same number in Italy. I was also told Lancia did it too - there were 220 yellow Evo 2 apparently but they over 1000 were built. Anyway, the fact that Renault recognises the VIN is enough to reassure me and, from a quick look on the forum, I can at least find history dating to 2012 on what I know for certain is my car. I don’t think it would have been worth anyone’s while back then to spend all that money turning a 182 into Trophy as the price discrepancy wasn’t steep enough to turn over a profit
