Hi All,

I've recently uprated my brakes to Brembo HC disk, DS 2500 pads, braided lines and DOT 5.1 fluid. The brakes were treated gently for the first 250 miles, however, on returning back from a long drive I noticed they started squeeling when coming to a stop.

As I was still a long way from home I had no other option but to carry on. I then started to hear them squeeling when no pressure was being applied to the brakes, so they got pretty damn hot. I took it back to my mechanic and he shaved a bit more off the ends that touch the carrier but no luck.

The anti squeel shims have also been removed so I am all out of options. Can anyone make any recommendations?

Cheers

I've got pagids rs2-4 pad on my trophy, i get a squeal as you describe from time to time, i've just put it down to a characteristic of the pad as i've tried everything to get around it.

Not sure about copper slip on the ends of the pads Julz, maybe I'll have a look tomorrow.

The trouble is it's not the occasional squeel so the pads are going to be be rubber ducked soon. I read on hear that someone had the same problem and he went to see Mark Fish (I think that's his name), and it turned out to be badly moulded calipers so the larger aftermarket pads didn't quite fit.

He ended up plaining some of the caliper!

It's only a small issue I suppose but it makes me hate the car!

I know what you mean about small issues souring how you feel but you shouldn't get too despondent
So its both sides? Unlucky if both calipers are a bit off did your man check the pad travel when you went back if they were not catching then then its a bit of a mystery and you may have to get them filed.

No, it's only the left passenger side. Have you any idea how and where you shave a bit off the calliper, or it a job for a specialist?

Cheers for all your help

TBH I don't, I was hoping that one of the guys who had had a problem, Marrow? Might have come along to advise, I suppose it will be down to individual calipers where they catch

Cheers Julz,

I took the pads out yesterday and shaved a bit more off the ends, and applied a bit more copper grease to the backs and ends.

There is now about a 0.1-0.2mm play where the pads have been shaved, but hopefully this isn't dangerous.

Anyway, the squeeling has now stopped completely, and the brakes aren't overheating so all appears to be good for the moment! :)

225 is in for its 24000 service in the next couple of weeks, so I will get them to have a drive and check the brakes. Maybe it's just me but they really don't seem all that, even though they have now been uprated.

Also the pedal was nice and firm when I first had new hoses/fluid etc, but now they are a little spongy at the top and you can hear a slight compression hiss for the first few centimeters of travel. Is this normal?

Anyway, glad to have got the main issue sorted so thank you all again.

Ditto, but I have learnt to live with it as the pads are so good on a spirited drive! Just gets a bit annoying in slow city traffic!
