noticed today while changing the rear number plate that the supplying dealer originally fixed the rear number plate with screws !! i am the second owner, the dealer i bought it from put their number plates on with sticky tape
this leaves 2 open holes behind the number plate which of course the water gets into..i had the same problem on my mk1 172 and the bottom of the tailgate was strting to rust from the inside out..
why on earth do some dealers still still use the screws ?
i've now sealed the holes up

The dealers don't care if it rusts out, because by then it'll be outside the corrosion warranty. I think a lot of number plates in the future are going to be screwed on in one form or another, mostly due to the recent increase in number plate thefts. :(

i've changed plates and had to get the dealer to do it because they used weird plugs. I can't change the plates as they don't unscrew!!!...
