Hi everybody,

Just bought a Clio Trophy a couple of weeks ago and I seem to have a bit of a weird problem with it. When I break the car initially pulls to the left, but then trails dead straight when I break harder. I have checked the brakes and there is nothing wrong with them. I have also checked the wishbones, bushes etc. and there seems to be nothing wrong with them either. That leaves the Sachs dampers and I will get them off the car to check them over and get them refurbed if they need it. Does anybody have any idea what else could cause that problem? Any help would be much appreciated. Mike

I'll be honest im not the best with cars mechanically but the only thing that comes to my mind other than what you have stated....have you had the wheels balanced and tracked?? Could it be something so simple as the road you braking hard on?? Try it on a "perfectly" straight road.

Hi Swiss Mike; welcome to the forum; I had exactly the same problem - dampers! ; Mine didn't seem to be knackered as they seemed very solid both sides and had the normal gap expected at the top of the remote reservoirs (at 53k miles though thought they might need a re-furb so sent them off 2 weeks back). just got them back from the re-furb (plus I've changed the lower wishbones/ball joints) and it's perfect now, drives better brakes dead straight. Also, I have STM's and thought they were a bad idea (before the re-furb) as they were very cluncky - post re-furb = no clunks. - V happy with the whole set up incl the STM's right now :D

Time for your shox to be done methinks.

Tell us more about your T, put up some snaps and let us know what you think of it......

When I first spoke with Ben at BG after he dynoed my dampers, he said one was slightly weaker than the t'other and said this would have affected the braking somewhat as 1 side is stronger than the other.

Could well be this indeed.

Thanks for all your replies so far. Talked to BG Motorsport today and will send the dampers off as soon as and hope that a refurb will solve the problem. Kind of glad to hear you had the same problem with your car J, the dampers look fine but as you said they can still be knackered and BG said the same. Will keep you all posted about the progress. Thanks again for all your help and the warm welcome. Mike
