Help! My alternator is dead!

Typically, just as my car goes out of warranty, the alternator packs up!

I have looked at euro car parts and they want a criminal £223 quid for a new one. Does anyone know a good place to get a reconditioned one, or has anyone got a spare they would like to sell?

Also, is the alternator from the 172 any different? There are several for sale on Ebay for between £50 and £100...

Same problem! Had to drag my car to a dealer this morning.

They've promptly quoted me £568 for a new one + fitting. Have I just been seriously done...

Whereabouts are you? There's places that will recondition your one for around £60 and give you a 1 year warranty.
