The parts pile continues to grow with a little delivery from MOMO.
Not your typical Clio wheel, in fact ive never seen one fitted to a Clio, however one of my all time favourite wheels, the Prototipo classic.

Great thread!

Did you used to have a bugeye Impreza with a flocked dashboard by any chance? I remember that project thread from back in the day :)

Last part of my steering wheel assembly has arrived thanks to Volantech.
I asked for as discrete button panel as possible for the cruise control.
I’m not a fan of these if I’m 100% but I think it’s as least offensive as possible.

Great service again from Kam Racing. Couple of extra parts to be added over the festive period.

Finally some more progress.

I had my original wheel trimmed by snappy about 8 years ago and it’s been superb.
However now I’ve decided to modify the car a little I decided the wheel wasn’t keeping with the theme I was aiming for.

So today I managed to get some time to get the Momo Prototipo fitted.
The Prototipo isn’t a choice of wheel I’ve ever seen on a 182 but as my main love is Porsche, it was an obvious choice for me
Not wanting to lose the cruise control feature, I’ve added a small Volantech panel too.
One of the things I never sold off the Impreza was the Works Bell Steering hub. This is a snap off item that also has a bolt on key lock. It was sitting in the garage so decided to add that too.
Undecided if I like it as close as this so far but I’ll wait till the Recaros are in to make a final choice.

Loving the wheel though, Momo wheels are just so lush to use.

So my Christmas update.

Since the rebuilt box went in, I’ve had an intermittent notchy engagement of 5th gear. I couldn’t decide if this was due to the PMS linkage not setup correctly or if the synchro was fucked?
All synchros and bearings were renewed so seemed odd to me. Had a chat about it with Alex at AWM and we hatched a plan to investigate.
Long story short, the 5th gear synchro was new, but the selector gear was very worn indeed. These are NLA from Renault so Alex came to my rescue with a used item from a low mileage box. Subsequently with the minty new item fitted, no more crunch.

As I’ve been collecting parts to fit for ages and hadn’t had time to do any of it, I thought Christmas would be a good time to get some bits done. My main hitter that had been annoying me was sorting my bent sills out due to previous poor jacking.
So without going into too much detail, the skirts were removed, cleaned, all areas checked for corrosion, sills repaired, DEOX coated, Electrox coated and then sealed with paint before a final coating of Dynax UB. I had previously given the bent sills a tweek so the before photos aren’t actually how bad they were. This is annoying as during my first ownership of the car, these were flawless.
Still it’s all clean and protected now and should preserve the car for many years to come before I have to have it painted.
Also gave the underside mechanical bits a liberal coating of ACF50.

Lastly was a full brake overhaul, Brembo all round, cleaned and greased all sliders and a fluid change for some fresh RBF600.

I did buy new handbrake cable too but the Pagid ones do not fit the 182 so hard refitted the originals for now.

Very nice, I need to do the exact same to mine when weather perks up but might get axle and sub frame out for a powder coating so they look all nice too.

Thanks to @Amos91 for the heads up on the Borg & Beck item for the NSR. I can confirm WZD is now wearing new handbrake cables and the Borg & Beck item is really decent quality for the money.

The only issue I found was the protective sheathing was in the wrong place to protect the cable from the axle eyelet. So I added some silicone hosing to protect it.
All fitted up with a Genuine OEM OSR cable and a liberal coat of ACF50.
Nice to get this job finished up and the brake overhaul completed. So have her a quick once over. ?

Also delivered was my 4x brand new genuine OEM Trophy centre caps from RPD, these were purchased as I’m planning a wheel colour change too.

Hey Dave.
The Pagid NSR is far too short, the OSR will fit bit it’s tighter than OEM. Personally if you’re doing the pair, get a genuine OSR from RPD and a NSR from Borg & Beck.

Small but satisfying job this morning.
Since fitting the new steering wheel, particularly with the snap off hub, it places the wheel closer to the driver and as a result, a little higher than before. This is fine ordinarily, but as I will want it lower when I get the Pole Positions in. (Yes yes, I know I need to get them in)
I set about sorting some spacers to drop the steering column.
Just a 5mm spacer is more than enough time get the wheel much lower than before.
If you have an aftermarket wheel and also think it sits too high, I can highly recommend doing this. Takes about 5 minutes and makes a huge difference to the feel of the car.

Few little trinkets arrived for WZD yesterday.

Seat belt receptacles for me to progress my Recaro install.

Some 16mm front spacers to suit the 2118s.

And lastly, a cheeky little dutch delivery from AST/Moton. Thought I’d get some detail photos before they go on as they’re unlikely to ever look this pretty again.
These will be coated in ACF50 before going on and will wear damper covers to protect them as the car will be driven in all conditions.

Would the seat belt receptacles fit the trophy as mine have gone a off red and the suspension looks nice, is it the same stuff they were putting on FD2 civics when coming to the UK?

No idea ref Civic stuff mate.
arguably the belt receptacles will fit the male part of the belt but these are for a custom install of bucket seats as opposed to the OEM seats.

I nearly bought a civic with ast on as Litchfield used to put them on for UK roads and they were a massive improvement over the standard stuff but then bought a new 200 cup as I enjoyed it more. I will ring renault for the belt receptacles as it's the only part of interior letting it down.

Litcho and what was Powerstation have been fitting ASTs for over 10 years. All be it the Type 25s etc used to run the 4100 22mm piston non inverted type. These are fully inverted 5100s with 44mm pistons so should perform a good deal better again.
I hope. ??

So I’ve been struggling to find time to get these in the car but finally pleased to say they’re in.
I spent time removing the birds from the side mounts so as to not scratch the shells, painting washers and capping bolts to make it looks as close to an OEM finish as possible.

The car finally has a seating position that it should of left the factory with, although I’m going to shim the steering column down a few extra mm. It’s already down 5mm but I’m guessing 7 or 8mm will be perfect.

Not much else to say about them, I’ll get some nice pics when the cars clean.

Had a few other odds and ends arrive for WZD this week, some planned, some less so. Lol.
Won a brand new old stock front grille emblem for less than £8 which was a right result considering mines looking a little gravel rashed these days and they’re about £30 new from Renault.

2 sets of Motamec coilover covers arrived in preparation for the dampers to be fitted

New set of studs & nuts I in preparation for wheel spacers and 2118s when they eventually go on.

Yet again superb service from Nick @ Pure for the swift delivery of some 10mm axle spacers. Again to help get those wheels sitting correct once the ride height is dropped.

Got the opportunity to purchase an almost new set of Northloop Roll Centre Hubs. These have however been left somewhat neglected in terms of corrosion, and mechanically sound, aesthetically they look horrific. However I’m sure with a bit of love they can be made sweet again and means I won’t be overly precious about them being on my car as a daily driver in all weathers.

First job was to burn out the old dead ABS sensors and check them over. These will be a bit of a project to make tidy again, but will be a sweet addition to the car when they go on. I have full spherical bearings on the front of the Cayman R and they tighten the front end a treat. But the big obvious bonus here is getting that geometry back after the ride height is dropped on the ASTs and curing any bump steer that may otherwise result.
They also have new lower arms with new Poweflex black bushes fitted. Again, this should tighten the front end a treat.

678f95ed-bbca-40d5-a7aa-1d9cc8be4b55-jpeg.jpg

In addition to spherical bearings down the bottom of the strut. I had the opportunity to pick up an “as new” set of PMS topmounts and strut brace. I was going to run the ASTs on new OEM mounts, but these came up at a sensible price and couldn’t be ignored.

Lastly, my car still wears a genuine OEM Cup splitter which are now in the region of £300 to replace from Renault. Mines mint and undamaged. But again, with the impending drop in ride height, that splitter becomes even more vulnerable. So I’ve chosen to remove it and replace with a new Skoda Fabia item which is not only more durable, but a far more sensible £17.

So the pursuit of my perfect road spec Clio 182 continues.
