Ok today I bought 10£ of petrol, then on the way home all my warning lights flashed on this resulted on my petrol light staying on and no petrol being read by my trip computer !! This has happened a few times now, sometimes my engine actually cuts out when the warning lights come on ??

This is driving me insane

Commets please

I have had this problem before you need to put a larger amount of fuel in like a full tank and if that dont change the level disconnect the battery and try and its just a renault glich they all seem to do i if you only put small amounts of fuel in

Yer try what i said it worked for me now i fill up to the max ever time. It prob cause the level gauage is telling the ecu that there is no fuel so its not putting enough pumping force to the fuel pump to be able to keep the fuel rail pressure it needs to run.
Or it could just be you stalling it but you dont want to admit to us lol :D

There's a sensor issue - get it into a reno specialist not a dealer and they should be able to diagnose which one, I doubt it's an actual fuel pump issue but could be.

Always keep your tank brimmed with Vmax only. It makes a huge difference . The car was designed around a full tank of fuel (and handles better) , the empty space(air) in a petrol tank creates condensation and the water droplets fall in to your petrol (especially bad if you've only got a tenner in!) ... also, some other Clio's have the fuel pump in the tank and if this is the case for yours you should never let it go below a quarter as the pump will sit in open air , corrode , fail and/or clog any filters.
After a few tanks you will notice a difference , if not ,get your car tuned specifically to this petrol ,MPG is undoubtedly improved as well.
You only have to suffer the £60 once , after that put your tenner in when it goes to 3/4 ' s ... Simples !

The standard Renault battery and it's recommended replacement are hoplessley inadequate.
You can just fit the high powered bosch platinum in the space (kindof)
This seemed to have cured ALL my renaultsportclio electrical problems.

ps.
(does this car have the old r5 turbo reservetank n pump system ? if so , running on empty all the time may have ruined the auxillary pump which is designed as a life-saver not as a heavy duty Unit ?) (meaning you may or may not get that last 30 miles/1 gallon in dribbles?)but as soon as the tenner fills the main tank ... sweet ... for a short while?)

Sorry , should have mentioned , I'm sure that the analogue tank guage and the trip computer are in no way at all connected to the car , they just operate independantly (of anything) :D ) and both should be completely ignored at all times with regard to how much petrol is in your vehicle ! :D

nice 1 thank u very much for the info,,, ill do that and ill use the higher octane.so a change of battery is recomended yea ?? as this cutting out bussiness is a nightmare it just does it randomly, all the warning lights come on the revs go to zero but obviously as its moving it jumps itself,

cheers

What it sound like is a sensor level fault is one issue as for the cutting out its either you have no or very little fuel in the tank and all the lights on the dash indicate that the engine has stopped and all you have is the ignition on.

Fill the car with fuel then check to see when the engine cuts out. If it cuts out prior to the fuel running out sounds as though there is a second fault, its not uncommon for an injector fault.

The sensor level could be either fuel pump, more likely fuel level sender, wiring issue or dash fault. Best to get it to a garage as its very hard to diagnose without correct bits of kit and also your be dealing with fuel too.

Level sensor or dash fault could be rectified by disconnection of the battery, this usually resets control modules, i believe its a disconnection of around the 10 min mark but don't quote me on that for reanult's.

Prior to all this happening I fitted a dial kit witch required me to wire in a live and an earth, I did this to the wrong loom and simplly sspliced them bak ! I done it wellish do you think this could be the problem ?? If I knew it would be this much bother I wouldn't of fitted them !!!!! Cheers for the help !!!!

Sounds too close to be a co-incidence - reckon you should double check your re-wire.

It sounds as though your best starting at the loom would be an idea to make sure all solder joints are covered and well soldered/connected. The fuel level sender wiring at the back of the instrument panel is an orange wire from what information i have here but i may be incorrect.

If the pump is anything like the standard Clio non sport models then the level sender is part of the fuel pump which has the plug inside the fuel tank hence if your unsure as to what your doing your better off getting a garage to look.

The level sender is testable when pump is remove by connecting an ohmmeter across the pins and checking resistance when moving the float.

If you would like to update us on exactly what you have tried from any of these post's list would ideally give us more information to help. For instance more fuel & what did the gauge read, when engine cuts out, battery disconnection etc.

When you say warning lights, which ones and have you ever had them looked into'? the universal eobd readers can read engine codes if its the engine management light flicking up.
