Regrettably, my RenaultSport Clio 182 Trophy is up for sale.

** Just to be clear, I really do not want to have to do this, but personal circumstances which I would rather not go into on a public forum, mean I unfortunately have to part with my pride and joy. Not interested in P/X or swaps, as sadly my circumstances mean I will not be replacing the Trophy with another car **

Full Service History
HPI Clear
Both Keys Present (2)
5 Previous Owners

I bought this Trophy at the beginning of 2020, in pretty much completely standard specification.

The engine was completely rebuilt under instruction of the previous owner in June 2019 at 64,120 miles. This was a comprehensive rebuild at great expense, fully documented in the huge history folder for this car.

Belts & Dephaser were last done in April 2019 (at 64,120 miles) as part of the engine rebuild.

I have since had Group N Timing carried out by Alex at AW Motorworks (July 2020) and a remap by Engine Dynamics, resulting in a healthy 188.9bhp & 170.8 lb/ft with dyno printout.

Most recent oil and filter service was carried out by AW Motorworks in May 2020 at 66,156 miles – this included genuine oil filter, Mishimoto magnetic sump plug and Millers 5w40 CFS NT+ engine oil.

I have also carried out a lot of work and fitted a lot of modified parts over the last 6-9 months. All parts listed under the “Full Specification” section below were bought new and fitted within this period.

Here is a link to my project thread, which documents everything I have done to this car during my ownership in great detail: https://cliosport.net/threads/ash’s-clio-182-trophy.830295/

Engine bay cleaned and waxed before refitting by Paul Clarke (Renault Specialist).

Only genuine Renault parts were used and they were supplied by K-Tec Racing Ltd at a very competitive price.

Engine reassembly done by K-tec racing and to a very high standard.

Engine removal, refitting and running in done by Paul Clarke (Renault Specialist).

Block machining, crank regrind was carried out by D-Y Engine Services as well as supplying the new king bearings.

Project management, engine disassembly, cleaning, painting and cylinder head refurbishment by M.S. Custom Engineering.

Had to continue in a second post as was over the character limit in one post...

Bodywork/Cosmetics:-

Bodywork is near enough immaculate; barely a single mark to mention.

Looking down both sides of the car, there are no dings/dents/marks at all, arrow straight.

I had both bumpers, the bonnet and door handles professionally resprayed back in March 2020 by Extreme Finishing in Basingstoke. Really was a very good job and was not cheap. There was nothing wrong with these parts, they were just very slightly faded, and I have mega OCD!

The front bumper has got a few minor stone chips since being resprayed (picked up on a weekend road trip in Wales). I have not touched these in as they are barely noticeable and do not bother me. Aside from this, bodywork is immaculate, and I am being really picky with the stone chips at the front anyway.

Car was ceramic coated by TK Detailing in April 2020, just after I had the above parts resprayed. This makes it really very easy to wash and maintain.

Recently, I had the rear door cards off just to inspect the inner rear arches. What I found was two absolutely immaculate inner arches, with no rust in sight. I bought some Bilt Hamber products recently with the plan to lay down a few coats purely just for protection. I have not got round to doing this yet, but will include the products, and am more than happy to take the door cards off for a viewing so you can inspect yourself, as there is nothing to hide.

Bad Points (?):-

There literally aren’t any! Aside from the odd stone chip to front bumper, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this car.

Everything mechanical has been replaced on this car for new (genuine) or uprated parts in the last 6 months, with the added benefit of an extensive engine rebuild carried out in April 2019, and a fully refurbished gearbox in May 2020. Drives absolutely spot on, no issues, warning lights, knocks or bangs. It wants for absolutely nothing and I can’t stress enough that this genuinely drives like a brand new car.

Interior is absolutely mint, particularly as the Pole Position seats were brand new a few months ago, and absolutely everything works including all electrics.

Spare Parts:-

The following spare parts will be included in the sale:

PMS Sports Cat (for MOT) – brand new, worth c£400 alone
Standard Airbox
OE Ignition Leads
Standard Shifter
Front Sachs Dampers (refurbished by BG Motorsport in Aug 2012 @ 56k miles; taken off car at 65k)
OE Front Top Mounts
OE Rear Sachs Dampers
OE Front Eibach Springs (only around a year old before being taken off car earlier this year)
Rear Seats & Belts
Front Seat Belts (silver)
Standard Dial Surround
Front Calipers & Ferodo DS2500 Pads
Standard Dash Trims
Wheel Bolts
Various Small Parts
Indoor Car Cover (with Trophy Number & RenaultSport Logo)
OE Recaro Trendline Side Mounts with Original Numbered Plaques

The only standard items I do not have, are the Recaro Trendline seats and Speedline Turini wheels. I did retain the Recaro side mounts with numbered plaques as these are obviously unique to this car.

However, the seats and wheels currently fitted to the car could be sold to fund standard replacements with cash to spare.

The chassis has not been modified in any way, no holes drilled etc, so it can be returned completely back to stock at any time, if so desired.

Price

Asking price for the car is £15,000 to include all of the above spares and standard parts.

I appreciate this might seem like a lot of money, but given the mileage, condition and history (including engine and gearbox rebuild), in my opinion with values where they are, this is certainly a £10k+ example in completely standard spec.

I must have spent just under/over £10k on new parts and upgrades over the last 6-9 months, so I think the asking price is reasonable given somebody could enjoy the car as it is with no real outlay for many years to come, or remove a lot of the modifications and sell them on (they are all top quality parts that people want) and still have one of the tidiest examples of a 182 Trophy at a much reduce price. I would estimate there is near £5k worth of modified parts which could be taken off the car (all seen minimal mileage) and taking into account you would need to source standard wheels and seats (say £1,500), you would still see a net return of about £3.5k on these parts, and still end up with a very nice car indeed.

Car is located near Portsmouth.

Really does need to be seen to appreciate how clean this car is.

If you have any questions or want any further details or pictures, just drop me a message. Plenty more detailed photos, but can only upload 10 on here.

I honestly, really do not want to sell this car, but circumstances mean I do not have a lot of choice. This is not a decision that has been taken lightly.

Cheers,
Ash

Really sorry to hear you are having to sell. You must be gutted given all what you have done to the car and how great it is.

Really hope you get the asking price and that it goes to a deserving home.

Best of luck.

That is a cracking looking example and its another plus that you have most of the standard parts to go
back on the car if the next owner wishes.

Best of luck with the sale but I doubt it will hang around too long and best of luck with your
circumstances.Hopefully it all works out for you.

Knowing Ash and knowing his impecable attention to detail. It came as no suprise when i got to look around this car in the metal a few weeks ago just how stunning it is. The level of finish on it is beyond any other Clio ive seen. The phrase "photos dont do it justice" is often overused, however that really is true in this case.
I dont believe there is a finer Trophy in better spec for sale anywhere in the world, and his asking price is easily deserved if someone truly wants the best modified Trophy available.

Best wishes Ash, hope to see you back in something equally as special soon. :)

Sorry to hear about the circumstances! This is an absolutely cracking example and the Trophy really should have come with the red seat belts + pole positions from factory! I've been eyeing this on social media for a while now as inspiration and can see how much blood sweat and tears have gone into this build. All the best with the sale and definitely hope it goes to an equally good home.

Have spent lots of time and money restoring mine recently, sadly the mileage doesn't make mine a higher value one, but yours has some very tasteful modifications and looks very clean. Good luck with the same, some bits and pieces you've made me think about ?

That’s a pisser Ash, sorry to hear.
Looks great, sounds great. It’s got the best “other wheels” imho and Trendlines aren’t hard to find.
Ps. That how to write an advert.

Wow great advert ash. This car is absolutely brilliant, it was Alan’s old car and he was very much an attention to detail person which it looks like ash you have taken to a different level.

also Paul’s work on it is first class so is an excellent car. He has worked on all of my trophy’s over the past 10 years - top guy and excellent mechanic

hope you get it sold ash

After buying your LY182 years ago which was a great car- I can only imagine the standard of this trophy! If I had the pennies, I’d be picking this up at the weekend! All the best with the sale Ash.

For me the dilemma for most buyers will be around the level of departure from the standard car. It is always the case that individualising a car narrows down your market, even more so with cars where the factory features form part of their limited numbers. It’s a lovely car, well presented and most of the parts are there for a potential buyer to take it back to standard. I believe it’s probably the highest price asked for a Trophy, as such it’s a very niche sector of the buying market.

Absolutely stunning car!

Sadly I agree with the point above, the usual collectors who are paying top dollar are looking for low mileage OEM examples.

There’s no denying that this car is exceptional however it does have a very limited market at that price point.

Really hope I’m proven wrong though!

Whilst i wholeheartedly see the points raised above, i see this from a slightly different angle.
I agree that many will want the "halo" model in factory trim because thats whats deemed to be special etc, however, Im going to stick my neck out here and don the flame suit, but the Trophy as good as it is, isnt without its flaws.

Dampers - The Sachs whilst a very good damper and significantly better than fitted to a general road car of 15 years ago, are still over 15 year old tech and materials. Theyre not height adjustable, no longer made, expensivbe to source, expensive to replace, not that hardy and have a very sporadic life cycle. Some last 5 years, some last 5 minutes.

Recaro Trendlines - Whilst these look nice and offer the folding option to carry a rear passenger, theyre not that supportive and many including myself find them pretty uncomfortable. Theyre still too high and how many Trophy owners actually carry rear passengers?

The rest of the car is a basic 182 with some nice red paint, of which has also been refreshed and detailed on this car. All of the other parts, as on any other Clio will be getting tired, bushes, bearings, mounts, clutches etc. Engines although still absolutely fine have had a mixed life and many gearboxes and shifters are also very much showing their age. Steering wheels melt and lights get manky.

All of the above have been addressed on Ash's car and all either as good as, or far exceeding OEM spec.
Lets not forget that all of the changes on this car are "bolt on" only and no items cut our holes drilled.
The icing on the cake is that all these bolt on changes can be removed to refit the standartd stuff with is included in the sale. The car could easily be returned to stock and parts sold on at a significant price for any interested party.

This is the ultimate drivers Trophy with all parts honed to improve an already fantastic driving car. Standard wheels back on and ride height raised and you're visually back in what looks a stock Trophy but still with all the refreshed and upgraded areas done.

So whilst im not knocking the standard car, its not perfect and all are 15 years old now so will be tired if not cared for. If i didnt have my own 182, i'd be on the way to see Ash with a wallet full of cash now.

I'd be interested to see this on Collecting Cars or Dream Car Giveaways as i think theres isnt (in my opinion) a better example of a tastefully and correctly modified Trophy anywhere.

I'd buy this in a heartbeat had I not just bought the Abarth and the costs involved with sorting out the f**k-up that is my own Trophy. I was close to buying it from Alan and I'd love to buy it from Ash. Bad timing but good luck with the sale. It's a beauty of a Trophy and one I actually know well (although Ash has taken it a level higher still).

I believe it’s probably the highest price asked for a Trophy, as such it’s a very niche sector of the buying market.
There have been a couple or three priced higher, albeit ultra low mileage and minty fresh original. Sadly these are not on the forum (yet!) and the cars are unlikely to be driven (so sad).
