Thats the car it should have been when it was redesigned. :(

Call me cynical, but it just goes to show how much money they want to make by releasing sportier versions of a car that is a lesser model than the last.

Doesn't look much like a production ready road car to me. Bonnet pins and a roof mounted air scoop? Much more like a racing version in a similar vein to the Clio Cup racer...

Looks great, I'm confused as to what it's niche is though, a 197 Cup Car rival or an R26 rival? Will it be completely stripped out like a race car or still have rear seats etc? Will there be an even better Japan only R-R? Autoexpress are a bunch of wankers too, they love the CTR when everyone else slates it and compare it to the Escort Cosworth, I'm sorry what exactly do they have in common?

If Honda do this car, it'll be great - sounds like the sort of car a "What would you have done with the Type-R ?" thread answered by the manufacturer!

I know (partly thanks to you SpaceMonkey) that's why I asked. Think I'd still prefer a Japan import CTR, more practical, just as quick in the real world (260bhp FWD a bit silly) and a lot nicer looking.

See AutoExpress - apparently not for production - they quoted a price of £64,000!!

260hp from a NA 2.0... and I've no doubt it'll be reliable too. Once again the Japanese flex their engineering muscles!

I saw an article in Autocar a week or two back on the new 4-dr Type R they stated that it would cost 12k in Japan - now that would be a bargain! Paying 20k for an import doesnt seem like such good value after reading that.

If it actually makes it into production in a relatively similar state to that then it'll be awesome.
A friend of mine collected his new Type-R a couple of weeks ago, and he really likes it. I've yet to see it in person, but I'm interested to see what it'll be like.

13K according to Miquel @ NewEra.

20K after shipping with the correct insurance, have a model report drawn up, then ESVA'd will not be cheap mate.

Considering you can bag a quicker, nicer looking & more exclusive car for less than the UKDM car costs does it really seem too much?

Also the FN2 in the article is a JASMotorsport car & not from Honda themselves.

Um, just read all of that and it all makes sense now, I had no idea that the Japan only Type-R was a four door saloon (thought it was a 2 door coupe), this is why the UK has the hatchback one, Civic's have always been hatchbacks over here. That Type-R seems to be a direct replacement for the Integra Type-R, and a pretty good one too. Although now it's a four door saloon it is now a direct competitor to the Subaru Impreza and Evo, silly really as they will eat it alive, might not be as good driver's cars but doubtful that the Type-R will be motoring perfection with 225PS going through the front wheels. Strange.

Still the £22-23K that Litchfield are charging for a new OTR car is pretty good for what it is. A lot of car for the money, makes a Mondeo or BMW 320 seem very poor value!

Only if you're a sales rep who happens to have a lot of clients at various points around the Nurburgring Nordschleife. I'm sure for driving up and down the M6 a 320d would be a much nicer place to be. :)

I know which I'd rather commute in and it wouldn't be the 'Ultimate driving machine' that runs on crude oil and doesn't even come with indicators as standard.

I d like to add! What does autoexpress know?

The only mag (along with Top Idiot!) to say the Honda Type R is hot hatch king when VXR, Meg, Golf Gti and S3 are all much more accomplished cars. I dont rate Auto Express at all I am of the belief that it is writen by pipe smoking morons. New civic typr r or r-r is nothing in compariosn to Jap version or any other hot hatch available to the UK at mo.

That is my rant for today. Thank you

Good rant! Autoexpress are shite, although Jap Civic isn't a hot hatch, Type R-R is a very expensive special (essentially just the touring car minus decals) and I would rather have the the UK Type-R (Type Si as it's now known!) than either VXR.
