Replacing tyres on totally standard Trophy

.... ex Trophy lurker (previous owner of MO30's car), would say that yes, the AD08Rs are *not* idea for the wet, but at the same time I drove through two of the worst monsoons I've seen in my life in with them on (once in the UK heading to Buckmore Park kart circuit, the other driving to Le...

    New owner - #478 (nee T7PHY)

I'd be happy to take 478 back one day, but erm.... you're going to struggle to get that SL back off me :)

    New owner - #478 (nee T7PHY)

This is the car I ended up buying after a lot of hanging around paddocks sniffing out what was around: In the end went straight in at the deep end. Car runs in Class A of the championship, and probably only 0.5 seconds behind the fastest in the series. I am more than 0.5 seconds behind of...

    New owner - #478 (nee T7PHY)

Now sold/swapped with another forum member with a very different car (R129 Mercedes SL500) coming the other way. Since the last update, not a lot of change - removed the dogbone powerflex bushings (should have done it a long time ago - vibrations not pleasant , and doesn't add much to the...

    1:18 Model

Hi - as well as being a Trophy geek, am also a 1:18 geek - trying to be the first person ever to get all Le Mans winners in 1:18 (first ever because 4 or 5 or so don't exist, so you need to get them modded or made). I looked into this, and the closest match is the Otto OT047 model, but is LHD...

    New owner - #478 (nee T7PHY)

Update on #478: - 5k miles in, and sailed through first MOT with no advisories. Considering the unloved state it was in when i got it, am delighted. -Royalsteeringwheels covered my A pillars with the same material as the interior trim and wheel, less miss-matched plastic now. Much better. -...

    New owner - #478 (nee T7PHY)

On KTEC - i read a lot of the noise on CS, but prefer to make my own decisions. Looks to me like some genuine problems mostly linked to more complex remaps (with new cams), and a lot of noisy individuals who want to make a point. For a simple remap with just an induction kit and an exhaust they...

    SACHS DAMPERS REBUILDS

Great service from BG for #478. Shafts were knackered and needed replacing, had solid top mounts and strut brace from PMS fitted at the same time, had the shafts painted, and the compression adjusters fitted. Cost a bomb, but couldn't be happier with the results. I now own a Clio Trophy, not...

    New owner - #478 (nee T7PHY)

Update on #478: 1. Firstly, now own a Clio Trophy. Didn't own one before - had a 182 running on springs at the front. Had full refurb, two new shafts (ouch - expensive), got the compressor dial upgrades, a power coat, and PMS top mounts and strut brace attached. Car is utterly transformed -...

    Humming/droning sound - don't think wheel bearings

Confirmed issue is solved, and was rear discs as suggested by one of the first responders. FWIW - the usual tests you can read on the forums don't always work if damage to bearings is light. There was no noticeable difference in wheel temp, they didn't spin grouchily with the wheel off, the...

    Discs and pads

any experience with paint-damaging dust with the pagid blues? i am due an upgrade early next year, and was thinking DS2500 as they made a big difference on my R26, bit interested in the pagid blue option if they avoid damage to wheels and paintwork....

    Humming/droning sound - don't think wheel bearings

Turns out if it looks like wheel bearings, sounds like wheel bearings, smells like wheel bearings - it's probably wheel bearings. Gave up trying to work it out so took it friendly local MOT/Tyre/Exhaust place. Chap is 100% confident it's rear bearings, and getting new pads + discs fully fitted...

    Humming/droning sound - don't think wheel bearings

Rears aren't - not checked the fronts though, but will check tonight. Sound definitely feels like it originates from the back, but I know sound resonance can do funny things, so could still be the fronts.. Best guess so far is both rear discs, we shall see!

    Humming/droning sound - don't think wheel bearings

Hi, I have an annoying low droning sound that seems to be coming from the rear of the car. It is linked to roadspeed not engine speed, and raises in pitch with speed, but then beyond 40mph seems to stay at the same level. Everything you read about suggests rear wheel bearings, but there is...

    Refreshing rear suspension

ooof, that site (PMS!). Some lovely stuff there - and my "if you're doing it, do it properly" mantra has just significantly increased the total spend. Thinking the reinforced wishbones, the sold top mounts and the strut brace (if that makes any difference?). But is starting to get very...

    Refreshing rear suspension

Thanks all- food for thought. Going to prepare me a parts spreadsheet i think - a lot of different bits there! Does anyone have a perspective on the KTEC top suspension mounts? they also have updating bushings, but assume can just get from powerflex directly..

    Refreshing rear suspension

Hi - probably a dumb question, but if I want to get #478 feeling as "new" as I can, and i'm already all-in for a BG damper refurb, assume it makes sense to do the rears as well. Original sachs rears seem to be £105 as well - questions are: - Just the shocks, or make sense for Springs as well...

BG Damper Rebuild - compression adjuster upgrade. Worth it?

Thanks all for advice - at the moment, £170 is probably too much considering the pile of boxes from eBay that have started to pile up after only 8 days of ownership! Will keep them fixed, and wait until Mark Fish suspension upgrade at some point next year before considering again.

BG Damper Rebuild - compression adjuster upgrade. Worth it?

Thanks- makes sense. And in practice- *do* you ever adjust them? that's the main thing for me - does this setting make a real-world difference, or in reality is stock best 99% of the time. Thanks!

BG Damper Rebuild - compression adjuster upgrade. Worth it?

Hmmm, £170 is the cost of the upgrade. ". The original adjuster assembly is pinned in place on the Trophy so we can replace it with a genuine Sachs Race Engineering working assembly which allows you to adjust the level of compression adjustment either to soften it to make for a more...

BG Damper Rebuild - compression adjuster upgrade. Worth it?

i thought these were pinned by Renault as standard, i.e. you couldn't adjust them at all? cheers,

BG Damper Rebuild - compression adjuster upgrade. Worth it?

Hi - my dampers due to go in at BG on October 31st. Getting the struts power coated too. It's expensive enough already (and have been happily buying other bits for my new car without keeping an eye on what i'm spending!) - and adds another £170 to the bill. Has anyone done this, and if you...

    New owner - #478 (nee T7PHY)

It is - how did you know that? :) Nick has sorted the 1M out in the past and it's going there next Monday, will get the Clio wheels and calipers done at the same time if he has the time. Top bloke - really loves his work, and does a fantastic job. Remap wise I have been to RS Tuning in Leeds...

    New owner - #478 (nee T7PHY)

Hi there - after a very very long sales process, I am from last Wednesday the proud owner of Trophy #478. The register has more details, but quick summary is got the car, found a number of issues I should have spotted myself - the dealer agreed to take them on and the whole thing took 7 weeks...
