If you can record the sound on your mobile and then post it on here, we can compair noises. Mine is a kerplunk too, much more pronounced in the cold and sub zero temps.

If that happens pour a little vinegar in with the water. It cleans screen nice, makes screen smell of chip shop and also get rid of limescale.
