Lets also see how long this last's - Big Bumper 16v 3dr -

Better car really when they where new over the 205 due to it's build quality - however both great cars for differant reasons -

It's a shame that we didn't appreciate them more back in the day -

The one I owned (around 1997) was identical to this. Photo below... even back in the day, it never felt that quick, looked nice though.

Love it Sir - we had a Tornado Red small bumper car and a Atlas grey big bumper -

Your right to say they never felt that quick but I'd say it was down to the quality of the car - along side most standard Hot Hatches in a straight line bar the Astra 16v it did have the edge in my experiance - next step up in those days was a Sierra Cosworth or Audi Quattro and even those wouldn't run away - also the Golf Rallye pictured next to yours were slow but they are what I call a drama car now like a V6 Clio - people just like looking at them

That Golf Rallye is still alive. Has road tax but mot just expired.... mileage last MOT 246k km.

I replaced the 16v with a Corrado VR6. Felt a proper step-up. Amazing burbly engine.

Wow Nick, that is something else.

A lot of time and definitely money, has gone into getting it into that sort of condition.

Stunning car
A nice find by @NickReilly063 there don't you think Francis! I'd love a 1.9 in that condition, but it would have to be in white, with no sunroof, so I could relive the lift off oversteer I discovered as a 17 year old!! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I think you would find it very hard to find a better example, outside of some museum at least Ed.

Non sunroof cars seemingly are a lot harder to find as so many of the few that were actually
made without a sunroof, were very sought after for Rallying.
They wanted the solid roof as it likely meant a stiffer chassis, better handling, compared to the sunroof cars.

@NickReilly063 you certainly have a great knack for coming across these belting examples.
You should set up a sideline business, finding those rare (nowadays at least) and much coveted
cars from the heyday of the 80's through to the early 2000's ;)

That Mk2 Gti is seriously nice as well Nick, just about perfect.
Would be perfect if it was in Oak Green, but that's just being too fussy :p

I would love to try any of the Rallye versions from Peugeot, from the 205 to the later 106 and 306 cars.
I do admit to sometimes spending (wasting) an hour or two looking at 205 Rallye's on the Continent.
Imagine buying one in Italy or France and driving it back, via some of those mega driving roads they have
so many of over there.

@marrow Your a mind reader Mark 😂😂

That sounds the basis for an excellent road trip story Francis. 😁

Just a note on the 306 Rallye though... had one of these brand new in red in '99. The motoring press had raved about it at the time and it went ok in a straight line but the understeer.... Good Lord. I remember a particularly close call on a new bit of road round Mullingar on one of the Irish jaunts! It was without doubt one of the most disappointing cars ever for me, especially after the 205's. In fact, I went back to a 205 afterwards - a 1.6 in Miami Blue which I turned into a very rapid little car with some sort of hot cam and one of my cylinder heads, but that's another story. 🤣

Your only adding to your back catalogue now Ed....

We have the Renault and Mini back catalogue, waiting to hear a bit more about
the Peugeot years now ;)
Especially when their equipped with an Ed special, bit of engine trickery
That 1.6 205 sounds like it was a little cracker.

Not a car you would expect to suffer a lot with understeer, what had the 306 Rallye?
160/170ish Hp?

To be fair, that might have been more to do with our road surfaces, even if brand new
they can still catch you out 😂
I was in Dublin earlier on and went my usual route.
Part of it had been resurfaced and I got lulled into a false sense of security.
As happens a lot here, they only put a very thin layer of tar and chippings down, even
though you might expect the surface to be a lot smoother when you see the new surface
ahead of you. Done expect some of those nasty, off camber bumps to be gone though ;)

Definitely don't start into writing anything at this hour Ed, might hear about some
of your Peugeot adventures at some other time.

Love it @photo_ed , looks like you had a fun time exploring some of the local Boreens ;) 😂
You cant escape hitting the odd cattle crossing intersection, in these parts.

Another few here Francis that have also been sold recently - the Mini is outrageous at that money however that's what makes the world go around.
