What did we do before Shell Optimax...

Super Unleaded, it was nice and easy, regular = slower, super = faster

Now we have to worry about detergents and bio-fuels etc, and try to work out if it will make a blind bit of difference to the state of our enigines in 20k or 30k miles time...

That fact is i am right. If you look at the trading stadards enquirey into the alegations by Shell regarding optimax (available online if you could be arsed to look for it), you will see that Shell recieved a number of objections to the claims they made about optimax. All of those objections were upheld by trading standards after performing their own tests and after a literature search of both Shells and other petroleum research. The main objection upheld was that optimax can istantly increase the power of a cars engine.

However, the one objection that was overuled was the objection that optimax cleans the engine. The trading standards indded agreed that Optimax did reduce carbon deposits on valves and cylinders etc and also prevented new deposits forming. These carbon deposits cause detonation via the way that under heat they glow red hot and cause the fuel to preignite in the cylinder.

You can scoff like a lots of kids, but it has been shown consistently (and scientifically) that carbon will build up on a new engine within a few thousand miles. Further more it has been proven that this buildup is detrimental to power and performance. It has also been shown that optimax (and untimate) will remove ane prevent this build up occuring.

I remember them proving it. They took before and after photos on some BMW. Quite impressive.
