Where to live in Hampshire / Wiltshire?

Where would you choose, and why?

Am moving there with work & my options are: Basingstoke, Bournemouth, Salisbury, Southampton, Winchester

Escape to the country?

I'd put Basingstoke last, soulless. Winchester very pricey although generally nice. Depends what you want and have to spend.

I'll be renting initially then, if I stop spending money on my T & save a deposit, I'll be looking for my first house; well, flat first is most likely!

Am looking for somewhere that is leafy and generally nice, but also has some atmosphere / decent pubs etc & ideally decent driving roads not too far away!
