I knew vehicles were cheaper in the US, but after a recent trip there I discovered just how much cheaper.

Certainly not the most exciting car but my taxi was an Oct 2023 registered Honda CR-V (new shape). It cost the owner $28k (give or take) so around £22k. That same car over here is £46k, so more than double!

Why are cars SO much cheaper over there?

I'm far from an expert, but I would guess the biggest influence on prices
is the size of the market and economy of scale.

Plus, are car related taxes,VAT etc. a lot lower Stateside?

And to slightly flip your post on its head, speaking as someone living in Ireland,
we get very envious of the price you pay for cars in the UK.
You would have a fit if you had to deal with our prices.

For example:
GR Yaris launched here with a price of €55/60k
Toyota Supra launched here around €85/90k
Latest model M2 starts at €115k
Seen a few fully specced MK8 Golf R's listed for €95k
718 Boxster GTS starting at €147k
718 Cayman GT4 RS starting at €235k

So you don't have it too bad at all ;)

Maybe the solution for petrol heads is just to ship out to America or the Middle East
for the giveaway petrol prices :p
