Tyres.!!!

Hi folks.
This is aimed at those that have run, or are running the Yoko AD08R,s on there car. [205/45/16]
How do you find them as an all round everyday tyre.
Are they harsher ride quality.? Noisier etc etc...
My car doent get used much in the winter so im not too bothered about wet grip, but obviously itl need to be reasonable if I get caught out in the rain from time to time.
I have the Michelin pilots on at present, but there getting old, and a bit worn...
How will the yokos compare to them.??

AD08's are a little bit harder, but not noticeable compared to the PS3's. I absolutely loved them, I drove them all through the winter and had no problems. They felt like they were much closer to the old PE2's. I'm currently on Federal 595RS-R on the front and PS3's on the rear. The RS-R's are very similar to the AD08R's as far as I can tell (only had them on the car for a month).

AD08R's were a little harder and gave more front end grip when compared to the PS3's.
The RS-R's were on a similar level to the AD08's.
I still think the PE2 is the best tyre I have ever used on this car.

I use them, they're fantastic in the dry and give great 'feel at the wheel'. Pretty useless in the wet though and noise levels are high on your average crappy UK road.
Not to say you can't drive the car when it's raining but you need to treat it with respect rather than just throw it around like you can in the dry.

Yes you do have to treat them with care but so long as your sensible with them they are alright. I got caught in heavy rain with lots of standing water when on the RS-R's and wasn't as scary as worn tyres or brand new ditch finder tyres.

I've done around 1k miles on my AD08Rs, including use throughout the winter and also on a couple of track days. I've been really pleased with the overall grip, wear and feel of the tyres. They've been better on track than he 595-RSR tyres I've used previously (admittedly on other cars) and I was genuinely impressed with how they performed in near freezing conditions over the winter. Big thumbs up from me [emoji106]

Had PS3's before and changed to AD08's for track. On track the PS3's are very soft and rollover so you wear up the side of the sidewall.
In the dry I think better than the PS3's and Ok on road although the PS3's are face in the rain the Yoko's not so good but not bad at all.
Fine on road too.

Completely agree, you can feel the PS3's roll over onto the sidewall, it's a very strange feeling.

What tyre pressures have people been using on the AD08R's on the road?

I am having some fitted as I type this... Will be glad to get Hankooks off the car, as I really didn't like them

I'm unsure what to go for next, it's between the XL PS3 or the AD08R.

I've had Goodyear Eagles more or less since I got it and although happy with them, lots of people say they're not the best for feel and precision due to being so soft. That's not just Trophy owners but general comments on performance cars.

Never really had anything to compare them to on the car so I do fancy changing them and seeing for myself since a Trophy is all about precision. I never track the car, but do wonder if it might be worth giving the Yokohamas a go. They're near enough the same price as each other.

I don't doubt the Michelins would last longer too but I'd hope the AD08R's weren't terrible.

I am pretty happy with them although I still have cup dampers on the car at the moment, so haven't been pushing them.

They definitely feel firmer than both the Michelins and the Hankooks. Maybe a bit harsher because of this...

Grip in the wet has also been better than the old worn tyres.

Update- just got PS3's in XL guise fitted today, will see how different they feel. Just pressing the sidewall by hand it's obvious how little flex they have in comparison to the Goodyears.

Liked the idea of the AD08R's but on a recent drive over the Cairn O'Mount in cold, greasy conditions, the Goodyears were finding very little grip, I'd never seen understeer in the Trophy as severe. Tread was obviously wearing very low but I suspect this would be indicative of what the Yokohamas may be like in similar conditions.

Hence going for the Michelins for a wider spread of performance.

My RS 200 came with half-worn R888R GG (road legal compound option of this tyre) they're immense in the dry! I've recently put MPS4 on and it's a real step down in terms of grip, confidence & feel. Obviously the PS4 are far better in the wet, especially standing water. The 888s do wear quite quickly & are pricey to start of with.

Had AD08Rs on the DC2 in the OP's tyre size and they were really good too. Several track days, road miles and does everything well, although not the best in the wet, like R888R, caution if very wet / standing water. The 08Rs wore really well too. The 888s were better I think, but more track focussed and wear more quickly. AD08R seems a solid default for lots of performance cars; everyone who has them seems happy!

I'm deciding between more 888s or AD08Rs in the spring, but others are in the mix too, such as the new Nankang AR-1

I can see why the rule is to fit new tyres to the rear where possible. I have adhered to this before but since I figured the Goodyears on the rear still had about 6mm on them I'd give it a go with new tyres staying on the front.

I've had a few instances of oversteer recently in the cold and damp that I'd never have before so I think I'll swap the wheels front to rear. I'm not talking about lift off oversteer either.

Salted roads can be almost as bad as ice if salt crushed into a dry road, oversteer waiting to happen.
